In which way could that be an explanation (or even justification?) for any hostility?
I can't speak for anyone else and in the case of certain members I merely give as good as I get.

Often "better" includes "I prefer" , at least it is my impression, but it must not; but anyway, why don't you think that readers are not able to get the subjective side of such descriptions?
Does it really happen that some new members (totally naive) trip in this thread, and believe anything that is written herein?
Just because there are a lot of old people on this thread doesn't mean BS should be left to lie. In fact they are old enough to know better.

It is often not expressed, but for a claim to be regarded as "extraordinary" there should be a lot of contradictionary experimental evidence exist, it is not sufficient that somebody (or even a group) believes it shouldn't be possible.
Pouring glop in a top of line pro audio DAC and it actually being improved is pretty extraordinary...

Ok, let me rephrase that: to some 5 % with average hearing but super analytical hearing skills. It still is 14 % and illusory until proven otherwise.

As we know that "proof" is not possible, there must be something sufficient below that, but what would you accept?

I'm still wondering what the new line of reasoning wrt the assumed inaudibility of effects/differences is. As it was recently accepted that a new generation opamp not only measures better but is audible better than an 711 , there must be a new set of thresholds than before......

"Others started it" shouldn't motivate to copy.....not to mention that after such a long time usually nobody knows what exactly started what.

Are there any new facts known about the modifications that were done in that case?
I mean to state "BS" is easy but if nobody knows what was actually done, it is questionable, isn't it?

I hear whistling in my head for at least 15 years now regardless of my wife’s mood
Don't you compose concertos and sonatas ?
I'm joking, but , as I'm affected a little of this in the morning as well since one year, I know how it is desagreable.
I have read that it has a correlation with hypertension. And that it's often akin to hearing loss. I hope this last point is a legend.

everything is archived for anyone who can be bothered...

Amongst all the 'aren't I clever I've ruined the resale value of a perfectly good dac for nothing' there were pictures. They would make Ott weep. Again can be found by someone who can be bothered...

It can be, although I recently started taking Ramipril it made no difference. Stress generally aggravates it, but then stress aggravates most conditions. It is associated with hearing loss although I'm not sure quite what you mean by akin too?

It seems to me ...
That's what it has been, you personal impression. You are free to have that but if you want to make a claim out of it, be sure to back it up with facts (real facts, not the pseudo facts like the one you displayed recently before putting your head in the sand).

Aural hallucinations mostly consist of hearing voices. A much smaller number or people hear explosions (Exploding Head Syndrome). There are few other known aural hallucination experiences too. None of the foregoing are observed to come and go reliably as a function of A/B listening experiments. Nor for ABX (its problem is false positives).
One day it's the false negative, then a few days later it's false positive? Which one will you settle with? Let us know once you are done with settling.
In some sense all human perception could be considered hallucination since the reality perceived in conscious awareness is a construction of the brain. It is not reality itself, despite it being an overwhelmingly convincing experience.
Which text did you read when you came up with this?

In fact, I have flatly stated I have less than normal hearing, including some loss at HF.
I don't see how you equate "flatly stated" with "probably not me given my age"

Leave tomorrow with my girl from Nepal to Danang Vietnam for a week of R&R at the beach for Chinese New Year time. My R&R from here and Sarada from university EE study in Sydney. As soon as the weather warms up, off to Nepal to see how the new house construction is going. And visit my girl Rasmita there (new civil engineer). Bring her to Bangkok for awhile. So, you guys keep on slapping each other around. Trash everyone as much as possible. And above all, listen to your distorted LPs.

Not to pick on this -- we have a lot of engineers on here, and in my experience (self-indicting) there is a nasty habit to say hunches/thoughts that are weakly formed or speculative as if they're the "truth" (that's in there just to bug SJ 😉), with no difference in language or qualification compared to things that are far more robust. I see this in scientists and physicians, too, but we don't have as many of them hanging around diyAudio. May be an overall fact of being human, but I don't regularly interact with anyone that's not a scientist/engineer/physician. 😉

This tends to work just fine a lot of the time (at least with more clever folk), as either said individual does some more work with this hypothesis that validates or refutes it and the end solution/result gets to do the talking. The problem arises in a big way when one uses "truth" type language on speculation and gets called on it, sometimes outright refuted, generally . Very few people are capable of backing down when caught. Worse yet is when folks become so set on their hypothesis that they stop/don't recognize the jumps in logic (tenuous or robust) and truly believe their speculation is a solved problem.

Add in our nature to believe our perceptions are reality and a strong desire to have coherence/consistency in thought, and you get a huge amount of the squabbles here.

No doubt the only one to run into this issue, but I think about Linus Pauling: absolutely, completely brilliant with tremendous contributions to our understanding of the universe. But also stubborn as an ox about the whole Vitamin C thing, even though the evidence was, and remains, weak at best. If minds like that run into these types of behaviors, then the rest of us are just as susceptible.

Have fun Richard. I'm sure everyone will have fun here too, believe it or not some people avoid this thread like the plague, I don't get it. I've learned a lot here, more than any other thread (probably), perhaps that's the problem, they are afraid of the "TRUTH"? 😀
