Retro - DAC
That is the one I am planning on doing.
The only difference is I would be swapping out the receiver chip for the DIR9001 and I would use single ended tube output.
Hi JP!
I’m probably going for:
Dac End:
DAC End - the AD1865N-K with single ended vacuum output stage
Or....
Dac End 2 (without the expensive LL1660AM trafo’s):
DAC End 2 - the AD1865N-K with single ended vacuum output stage
TJ,
The Retro Dac looks pretty cool also.
Which version DE did you try?

Mine was the normal Dac End. I should also mention though that in mine we use the transformers as interstage coupling transformers and then its a simple capacitor output from the tubes.
In this way the transformer acts as a filter of sorts.
We use 417as on the output to keep the output impedance as low as possible.
I received my chips today 🙂
TJ, thanks for such a smooth operation.
Keep us posted with your dac build.
Cheers,
Vunce
