wiring up the ICE Edge 1200AS2 board

-Im tryiong to wire up this amp and put it in a Modushop box. in the instructions manual there is this:

this is the channel 2 speaker output. question is. what does non inverting and inverting mean? I expect 2 leads + and -. I'd connect the + to red speaker terminal and - to black speaker terminal. but instead i have 4 leads called inverting and non inverting. what is this f%^$#ry? lol

This is a bridged amplifier, which means you do not have a hot + output and ground as negative -, but two hot outputs. You have to put the speaker "the middle" between the two opposing poles.
Because of the high current that is possible, the connectors are doubled. So what you do ist to take two red and two black (or blue) wires, twist them all together and connect them to the four points at the amp side and two at a loudspeaker terminal.

alright got it. my ghent audio 1200AS2 harness has red/black for channel one and black/white for channel 2. so now i know what to do about the speaker connections. thank you both.

I am also a little confused about the XLR inputs. ghent audio harness has shielded twisted wire for the input and I bought 3 pin XLR panel mount plugs. but im not sure what is the correct way to wire it.

the harness has twisted pair (two wires) and also the shield. which one should be connected where? in other words how do i connect these three (red, black. shield) to the xlr connector to make sure that it corresponds correctly to the xlr cables that I am using?

I fired it up connected to 3 way 86db monitors: Filarmonica — Selah Audio

it is a little confusing that the power output does not seem higher than my 60watta chip amp gainclone. meaning that the pre amp volume is more or less on the same level as the 60watts gainclone for the same level of loudness. this ia confusing because i turned my preamp all the way down to -45db because i expected all this power to kick in soon. but i had to turn it up to -15 for it to get the same level at loudness that i achieve with the gainclone. what does this mean?

oh I see although i am not sure i understand how power rating works vs. gain. because if two amps have the same gain but one has 600 watts output power and the other 60 watts, then the input signal must be 10 times higher for the 600 watt amp to actually output its max power. the problem with this is that all sources have standard 1.6 to 2 Volt single ended or 4V balanced output level so no matter what the source is both amps will always get the same max input. so it is not possible to send in a signal that is 10 time higher to the more powerful amp. unless we insert a pre amp with significant gain in the chain. something that I did not foresee, and do not want to do. is my thinking correct?

I thought the miniDSP SHD was all the pre amp that I ever needed. I dont want a preamp after my miniDSP SHD.

I have the full ghent audio harness so i can add all the functionality that this unit offers if I want to. I have space to add one potentiometer and i couple of two or three position buttons. which functionalities would be recommended to add to this box? right now I just have an on/off button in the back and one pair of XLR inputs and nothing else.

Your SHD can handle 4 Vrms.
Your amp has a gain of 19.5.
This combo can max the the power of your amp.

If you use the same preamp and the same setting in the SHD you should get the same power with either gain clone or new amp.

Perhaps you attenuate the signal in your SHD or your preamp not putting out enough Vrms?

the voltage gain on B&O 1200AS2 is 25.8db
the gain om lm3886 in most designs in between 25 to 26 db

I use the same source/pre for both amplifiers. at -10db from max the percieved level of loudeness is the same. I will do some measurement with minidsp microphone and REW software soon

HOW can i make sure that i drill holes at the right positions for the heatsink on the 1200As2. I have been listening to it for a few days and i think im ready to install it in an aluminum case, and i even bought hella thermal paste (its a European unit of measurement) to apply and then fix it to the case, but im pretty sure im gonna mess up the positions for the holes. is there a template i can print?

So 20,21 and 22 should be connected to balanced input either left or right? Correct? My 1200as2 arriving, not yet in my hands. Also how to enable stby. Please can you send me drawing? Thanks
Correct for the first part.
To enable stby you have to connect pin 6 on the P101 connector with DVDDstby (pin 3 on P101) with a switch in between as it shows on page 36 of data sheet (figure 12.3) so you pull it high or low.
As for the led yes,you can connect it there but consider that AVDD is 15V (DVDD is 5 volt) so put the appropriate resistor.
Also, everything is already enabled and works as is ,all you have to do is connect them properly as shown on the data sheet.

(excuse my english please)
