PN100A/PN200A replacements?

Are there any suitable replacements for the PN100A/PN200A complementary transistors? I know they look fairly generic, but I am just wondering what would be the closest equivalent pair?

Background is that I've bought a preamp PCB from eBay that uses these. I can find PN200As in stock, but the PN100As are unavailable for at least two more months from Mouser/Digikey which is a bit annoying 🙄.

Thanks,

Thanks PRR - I'll have a look at those (although I would prefer something that doesn't require leg-twisting 😛

Hi..
I bought original Fairchild pn100a/pn200a from a guy on bay the other day, sure he has stock.
What preamp if I may ask?
Would appreciate a link either here or in a PM 😀

It's (supposedly) a clone of a Bryston BP26 pre. Not sure it really is, but anyway a fully-discrete balanced design with some nifty features seemed worth a punt, so I'll finish it and test it. If it sounds good then i'll probably throw some money after it and put in in a proper chassis etc.

Can you post a schematic?

Before I go throwing options out there I kind of want to make sure they are not dumb in the application.

If this is a preamp, it would seem that there are a plethora of appropriate choices - but questions of voltage rating and power dissipation come to mind.

I would be hugely surprised if - in a preamp - there were substantial problems with using a wide variety of small signal transistors. But as usual, I would expect protestations from a some communities who are super fussed by one flavour of semi over another.

PM replied 🙂

I ended up going with the 2N4401/2N4403 and it seems to work well. Three reasons apart from the fact that I already had them:

- pin connections are the same as the PN100/PN200s
- the specs are very similar
- I read somewhere that the 2N440x's are actually very low noise, even if they are not marked as such.

The amp works well with these, but to be honest my impression is that this is a "non-critical" application so if the specs aren't miles off and you can make the pin connections fit, then other replacements should be just fine as well.

Hi googly

Yes its a preamp. Specifically a Bryston BP26 clone. I dont have a good schematic right now; I used the values marked on the board during assembly.
