I have had great luck with the Dayton audio high end subs. They are beast. But never used the one your talking about. I have used the Dayton 15” drivers in ported, sealed and tuba, and 6th order band pass cabs and have had great results with all the cabs.
The last tuba can I made with the 15” Dayton
I got a fine from the Seminole County sheriff’s department for the sound ordnance code. And the complaint came from someone down the street about 10 houses from me and it was around 12:30pm on a weekday. Lol. My wife was not very happy with me ( or them ) it cost me $75 dollars
What the wife did not know is that this was my 5th time getting a complaint about to much bass.

many thanks! ...it comes from this: XXLS400-DF ...and I thought maybe there is a sub that would prove superior in every way.

If you already have that driver you should just use it. Get the driver specs and run them in one of those free speaker / sub programs and enjoy. I’m all about repurposing old audio gear he’ll 80% of my audio gear is from yard sales and dumpster finds. Lol
I would drive my wife crazy when we would be out driving and I would see some old audio or computer stuff on the side of the road. She stoped yelling at me when see started to see how much money I would make off the stuff and how bad *** our home audio and car audio started to be
Between my tuck and her car and the Home theater and Stereo’s we have in the house
It would have cost me over 65,000 dollars and I bet I don’t even have one grand in all of it I’m not kidding. Just my Klipsch speakers for the HT setup is worth over 10k and I only have about 500 in it all

There are a few "upgrades" to the 830500. Very few are more cost effective. The 13" SS Revelator Revelator – Scan-Speak A/S is a definite upgrade in this size class, but they are not cheap. The 830500 is still a very respectable driver that takes some serious engineering to out perform.

What do you want to be better than the 830500 in this "upgrade" driver you are looking for?

better? ...more of all the good stuff, much less of the bad stuff! Here's one:
Morel UW 1258 SubWoofer 😎

I've not seen Klippel results for the UW1258, but it's smaller brother is lackluster. Test Bench: Morel TiCW 1058Ft 10” Ultimate Titanium Series Woofer | audioXpress

Compare these results to the Scan Speak I mentioned earlier: Test Bench: Scan-Speak 32W/4878T00 Subwoofer | audioXpress

I've personally used both Morel (Not the 1258) and Scan Speak in the past and will not waste my money on Morel in future. I am using the 11" and 13" Revelator drivers in two current projects for a high end customer.

I am not entirely sure what "bad stuff" you are referring to with the 830500. It is what it is, a very competent reasonably priced subwoofer driver that performs as described.

Many thanks for this information! Well, bad stuff would be things like distortion, and good things would be even less distortion, anything that can be improved upon to make music clearer and more natural. I was attracted to morel due to the price tag! So, I am very pleased that you have cautioned against them in this way i.e. not worth the money?

I made an error anyway, it's not the 830500; it's the Peerless 835017 XXLS SubWoofer , and I think that will be difficult to upgrade on? 😀

The 835017 is certainly a worthwhile evolution of the 830500, better in many respects, it will be costly to get a small improvement in performance over the XXLS series.

...a case of: "biggest bang for the buck", and diminishing returns - the more you go on spending the less the improvement gained! 🙄

...you are right, it would be costly, and I don't want to go there!

Cheers!
