The XLS 830500 is on (slight) closeout at PE for $155. Looks pretty good for a burly three way except for the response chasm at 500 Hz. Thoughts?
A "classic" 3-way would split 20-20kHz into 3 decades, 20-200Hz, 200-2kHz, and 2kHz-20kHz. The XLS 830500 response looks gnarly above 400 Hz, a "classic" approach would cross it an octave below that point.
If you already have mid-range drivers that are not good to at least 300Hz, the XLS 830500 probably would not be a good choice, regardless of the price.

It was actually the 835017 being discussed, not the 830500 as originally mentioned. See post #16
The XXLS driver is flat to 1KHz.

I have the smaller xls10 830452 at time I bought 4pcs long time ago for 396€.
They function well for value for a small room. These have the common with xxls, do not crossover in the mid frequency, will sound not so good I think. At least with monitor or full range loudspeaker.
So you can try your upper limit crossover, If you feel it sounds great at 150hz. I Went basically under 100Hz 24db/oct. with my 4pcs
Reflex better for movies, "closed" may suit better for music. Subwoofer design page you can usefull information in general of design of subwoofer.
