I am building a little integrated boombox style unit for my girlfriends apartment and looking for a tuner/mp3 player that is of decent quality. I already bought this
Jk6836bt Usb Sd Mp3 Digital Display Led Aux Radio Fm Decoder Module Dc12v 5v Board For Audio Player - Buy Fm Decoder Module,Digital Usb Module,Audio Player Module Product on Alibaba.com

But it is such a 2 cent piece of junk that i wouldnt give it to my worst enemy.

Aside from using a car head unit are they any well made products similar to that, but with a better build quality???

Thanks

-Mike

You might have a look at the Creek Audio site - they have been doing radio modules for some time and might have something suitable like their 'Ambit Tuner' perhaps.

There used to be one of the 'best' audio modules from Sweden, I think, but don't think they're available anymore

This module has good reviews but in this category it will always be a hit or miss...

I don't know the scope of your project, but analog FM tuner modules are extinct.

The long obsolete Velleman MK118 radio kit contains a KSE kst-102ha three gang analog tuner that can be robbed and paired with your own IF strip and stereo decoder for a simple tuner. Or, for less trouble, you can just build the Velleman and use the mono output from the TBA120 chip as is, or run it into a stereo decoder of your choice. The schematics for the simple tuner I built last summer using the kst-102ha, CA3089, and LM1310, are on here, and I can link them if you want to go that way.

All that said, after I had my tuner built, for fun I got one of the $2 FM kits off eBay that used an HEX3653 SDR chip, and it worked better than I expected. Some of the small FM SDR boards that can be controlled by an Arduino also might have merit. I wanted to go the radio way, rather than the SDR way.

That's funny 40yr ago I had a friend order the tuner module from his Heathkit AR-15 as a spare part for $15 and built essentially the same thing around the RCA and MOTO chips of the day. IIRC it was 4 gang all JFET and the final result worked out very nicely.
