Moode Audio Player for Raspberry Pi

Hi @mhouston,

When songs are queued in the Playlist the y part of track x/y is not available from MPD.

Album art not being displayed could have many causes. You would need to provide more information about the issue for example the audio formats affected, whether its embedded art in the files or album art image file in the album folder, and also a download link to a zip file containing some files that exhibit the issue so I could try to repro.

-Tim
If I include the album art in the same directory as the music files will Moode display it?

The helper module coverart.php looks for embedded art in the music files which can contain them and looks in their directory for image files named
Code:
'Folder.jpg',
'folder.jpg',
'Folder.png',
'folder.png',
'Cover.jpg',
'cover.jpg',
'Cover.png',
'cover.png'

PS - Ah, JAN tubes. I grew up in an Air Force family and lived near airbases here and abroad. WWII-surplus electronic gear was the source of many projects in my teens. The only trouble with metal-encased tubes was I couldn't bask in the cheery glow of the filaments at night.

Yes but as far as I know it is not available to anyone out side of the BBC, I would happily accept this over icy meta data if I could get to it.

You have to apply for access to the API.

Lots of people have access - such as Radio Times, news sites, etc.

It does require effort, though.

The Beeb has spent tens of millions on their metadata system, they are entitled to protect their intellectual property.

Rune displays Track x/y.

Doesn't it show the playlist position, rather than the album track?

Hi Jon,

Looks like the "simple-es9023-audio,384k" driver is not present in the 4.9.41 Adv kernels used in moOde 3.8 series. Thats the driver that would be loaded when running Adv kernels and selecting DDDAC1794 NOS for I2S audio device. It was developed by Clive Messer, one of the Linux kernel audio devs who is now since retired. Its possible that the driver no longer works in 4.9.y and thus was left out. I'll have to investigate.

In the mean time, try using the Generic-2 I2S (rpi-dac) selection.

Hi Tim

The Audio Device for I2S "Generic-2 I2S (rpi-dac)" and S.O 3.8.4, also works with special kernels, I could not make a comparison as audio quality with DDDAC1794 NOS (PCM1794) and S.O. 3.7.
The DDDAC1794 NOS (PCM1794) driver has to be changed after version 3.7, can it be repaired ?
Regards
Jon

Can you send me the link, the last time I looked it said only available to BBC employees so I must be looking at the wrong api link.

Still does not explain why they can put metadata such as current track in their dab streams but not icy metadata in their web streams.

Yes you are right of course. But I found this very useful because it tells me how many more tracks will play before I have finished listening to what I have queued.

But I see track number may be also useful. I'd still like positron is the queue over track number. Let's be greedy can we flick between both?? Track no. or position in queue. Nice.

Hi Jon,

The simple-es9023-audio,384K driver for DDDAC1794 NOS will be back in moOde 4.0 :)

Playlist position

For me, Track x from y of the playlist would be great. For me, the tracknumber of the album is useless in a playlist that consists of single tracks from different albums. If you play a whole single album, then you automatically have the correct track number of the album.

Hi @dukeg,

Makes perfect sense except if there are multiple whole albums in the Playlist, but I'll add to the TODO list for moOde 4.0.

There is quite a strong following of Pi solutions on another forum I'm on called STEREONET AUSTRALIA. You will have to be some a member and if interested PM me and I'll provide a link.

I have had huge input there starting with Rune and Volumio and now are strongly suggesting Moode as the very best. I have got three others using the same DAC brd. I have the AK4495/XMOS DAC now on Moode I have had a few support issues directed my way which I have been able to fix for guys just getting into it.

Recently I got three audiophile friends on Pi servers and helped with setup. I'm now trying to bring them across to Moode. Think about the SNA forum. More work I know but could also mean more business and support.

A quick question. If I am using my pi strictly as a DLNA renderer, does the program running on it affect the sound? My pi will be coming next week and I'm researching how I want to set it up. I plan on using JRiver Media Center to stream to the pi and then connect it to my Oppo HA-2SE. I've seen several opinions that Moode is the best sounding program for the pi but does that hold true just for DLNA rendering? Thanks.

upmpdcli is the dlna front end for MPD, which is the main audio engine in moode, and most other Linux audio solutions.

But, why not share your files over your network and cut out two complete interfaces and play the music directly?

In your implementation you will be going from source>JRiver>upmpdcli>MPD, where you could be going from source>MPD and taking advantage of all the wonderful tweaks Tim has designed.

If you just want dlna, there are simple Pi configurations that will perform that for you without all the overhead of libraries, airplay, etc.

You are recommending an Australian-specific semi-commercial forum with a few hundred active members over what is possibly the most widely-read home audio forum on the planet with over four hundred thousand international members and you think it will drive more business?

Current stats: Threads: 297,787, Posts: 5,115,508, Members: 404,462, Active Members: 23,201

There are more posts in this single thread than in the entire computer/software sub-board of SNA.

Perhaps you would be better off pointing your small-forum members over here?
