Richard: You don't have a turntable, why do you care?

That's true... It just seems that one ought to know the basic cmrr terminated. How did that slip by? Maybe the answere will drive one to find a way to improve the performance of cmrr with cart. I should think that just testing pieces of a system separate from one another is not complete enough.

well I have not seen any balanced link measurement of CMRR end to end. you measure the transmit side then measure the receive side. Injecting common mode into the link is feasible but I've not seen that done for audio before. This doesn't of course mean it hasn't been done!

Wayne K has posted noise floor plots of a stanton cart connected single ended and differentially, but this was not in the presence of a significant interference source.

At the end of the day if really worried, use a transformer.

Give me a clue how to measure it and I'll give it a go once my balanced phono is complete. I still don't think there is an easy way to measure it with the cartridge attached but many here are more skilled in the art.

balanced input ... can you show the circuit topology of the balanced input with cartridge attached. ?? Then we can see how to test its cmrr.

We agree !!! :) write down this date: you are 100% correct.. I don't want to learn it or spend any time learning and doing it that way. and you are not good enough :)

Well, I'm sure I can get better against a reasonable hourly fee.

Otherwise, I don't think you will find anybody interested to do the work for you, and for free. There is no real interest or any relevance in your quiz, and in general not any brain fart deserves attention. Try another former LLNC or gov. employee, you may be successful.

Sorry that's mine the Dick won't approve. My insight is too narrow and bookish, I'm not inquisitive about cable lifters.

Oh poor poor Scott..... Ok I approve. There. Happy?

Nice circuitry. Kinda like Borbely. Almost came close to wishing I owned a record player again

:)

what happens for all those many people who don't use/have the balanced config for phono input -- re CMRR with cart?

-RM, The Dick. The master of nothing.

Cable lifter baiting? No I don't use them, either.

Jan that's a good question and rather than give a quick answer let me think about my answer. I can think of some things that though real probably don't make for a compelling story, facts don't sell. So the question is what is the initial hook that catches your attention. Believe me, Jan, Demian already was asking about financial planning and marketing, none of it is simple but it isn't rocket science either, probably don't need a PhD to figure some of this out! Probably won't hurt all that time taking business classes.

ps. The Linear Audio crowd would probably appreciate the engineering effort and the sound quality from something unlike anything else.

A word of warning- do not voice enable the speaker. it will join a horde of others that have no real reason to exist that cost more than an Echo and are used for the same service. Its cheaper and more practical to make a space on the rear for a Google Chromecast Audio module. Use the Toslink connection and get on with making a good speaker. The retail for that module is less than the OEM for a module to do the same and you will own the support. (Shows how fast this market changes.)
