I used to live in eastern England, which is rather flat. I lived on the side of a shallow river valley, which was about the only variation in ground level. There was a place near our house where you could look north down the valley to the next town on the river about 10 miles away. Normally at night all you could see was the airglow from street lights. When there was a temperature inversion you could see the actual lights. On a flat earth I should have been able to see the lights every night.

Refraction can also affect sound. We live near Birmingham Airport, fortunately off the side of the runway so although we can see the planes approaching and taking off we don't get much noise. There is a small ridge between us and the airport, which also reduces noise. However, when there is a temperature inversion we can hear them on the runway.

That would imply the earth is not round / spherical. It's simple geometry you can prove with pencil and paper...
If you are some distance above the earth, you need to look down slightly to look directly at the horizon. If the earth is spherical, the horizon (where your line of observation is tangent to the surface) is the same angle downwards (and the same distance away) from you no matter which direction you look. Therefore, the observed curvature of the horizon is an illusion.

If the earth were flat, you'd (almost always) be closer to one edge. The closer you got to the edge, the further down you would have to look. This argues against the flat earth, because the horizon would curve upwards if you were looking at the closest edge.

For extra marks, explain what shape the Earth would be in order for the horizon to curve "downwards" regardless of the direction you look...
 
I believe that Kim Kardashian A** is flat! All photos have been altered! Now, plese set up a fund, send the money to me so me so I can personally visit Kim and her sisters just to prove that I am wrong! I want to see the curvatures! HahahahH 😀 😀 😀

Many of the classic flat earth experiments took place in the east of England, in the Fens. The old Bedford Level canal near Welney has a straight run of 5 miles, bridge to bridge. This is where Rowbotham and others did many experiments.

I few years ago I went there to have a look for myself and do some experiments. The canal is still there, the bridges, too. One new addition is a railway bridge that crosses about half way between two of the bridges used in the experiments. That came in very handy for measuring the curvature.
 
Samuel Birley Rowbotham AKA Old Parallax is the man from whom so much of current flat earth theory derives. I never met him, he died long ago, but I do have his book and have visited his test sites.
Rowbotham gives the circumference of the Earth's disk as 16,262 statute miles at the latitude of Valencia and 23,400 statute miles at Sydney. I'll have to dig a bit to find the thickness. 😉

Not that much parallax! On the contrary, quite common story IMHO.
 
Here is a photo I took in 2011 on the Bedford canal. It is devilishly difficult to take a photo of something small 5 miles away over the water. Just too much air in the way. It took a lot of photo enhancement to get the image this clear. I've not really had better luck anywhere else in the world, either.

What you see is a view from one bridge to a dam 6 miles away. The gold shape with the dark outline is the dam. Approximately in the middle is the railway bridge. It came in very handy for calculations. The rail bridge was not there when the famous experiments were done in the 19th and early 20th century.
