Back when Papa released his simple jfet preamp, I annoyed the living hell out of Juma about the pinch off of the jfet, then he modified it because of my bloody whinging, he then later decided on bf862 instead of the Toshiba jfets.
I built his modified Toshiba preamp but not the bf862 version.
I run the IS 5021 like any other DAC , all the fonction are off , and it works great ( with some nice mods , caps output ,power supply , etc ..) .

" Potentiometer Sound " can be amplified but without sonic miracle.
How change just to precision wire wound potentiometer can bring
for reasonable cost some satisfaction and yeah the other

I know , but in this case the volume is on the digital side ,it has virtualy no effect on the sound , on the analog side of the pre-amp i will put some nice stepped attenuator .

btw. when we make differentiation between balanced , symmetrical and differential , there is whole new world of details and paths
especially when one gadget is all 3 in same time
