Sony vFET Amplifier Part 2

How would you compare it to the f5tv2 ? I do not feel that my f5t is in anyway bright, it could have more resultion and micro-dynamics for my taste to compare to best tubes...but it is currently burning in and had only a few hours sofar....so it may turn out completely different....

VFET and SIT-2 are not the same. Both sound nice and have a similarity
in the quality of the midrange, that thing which people tend to like, but after
that....

We are talking about a single-ended single stage Common Source N channel
without feedback vs a push-pull 3-stage complementary Common Drain with
feedback.

Thank you for sharing so graciously with us Papa. I must confess, my fear is toasting my VFETs the first time I power up. Thank goodness for your detailed instructions and startup procedures.

To that end, I have my three DMMs, a variac, and an isolation transformer waiting to save me from releasing the magic 40-yr old smoke in January.[emoji106]

Better than the M2, better than the AJ. On par with the SIT-2, I can't say which I like better of those. The quietest amp I have built to date, fast, dynamic, great mid-bass. Buy a SIT-2 and build a Vfet and you'll never need another amp, in my very humble opinion.

Joe

What he means is the lucky dog has both the V-fet he built and a NP built SIT-2
to compare. I bet he is one of the few in the world that can say that.

My hope is to build a NP designed SE V-fet one day in the near future. Hint, hint.

🙂

Wow. Just discovered this due to the DIYAUDIO Newsletter. Downloaded the 4 VFET articles by Pass, read them in their entirety, I'm all in! Bought the 5U enclosure, the VFET essentials and supplementals kits. Hopefully, should be able to "pass" this great amp to my next of kin when the time comes, like an IWC watch.

Thank you Mr. Pass, looking forward to it! I had a good listen to your 40th Anniversary VFET amps at RMAF. They were nice & toasty 😀

And where is 6L6's build guide already?😉

Best,
Anand.

Just a reminder, don't bring up the voltage too slowly with the variac! I think in the article it's stated that it should be around 10 seconds, iirc.
