GOTO 6-way TimeAligned Horn System

You will miss your 5-way in meaning "would like to go from 2 to 5 again"?

Love your midbass-floor horn!

Why did you replace the spiral bass horn with the br-enclosure? Is it a matter of size or do you prefer the bass from the br?

Best regards

Gisle

I miss the look, not the sound.
It was so gorgeous 🙂

I also love my mibbass horn. I truly believe, that uniqueness of my sound is actually just because of it. I can hear many good speakers, with great HF and MF, but only in my system I have no questions to LF. Typically, I always hear that LF are slower than other frequency range, that there is an inertia and lower octaves of instruments are always sound dull and muddy or in best cases just less vivid. But not in my system! In my system transparency of LF is same as HF! Some people say, that it is too good 🙂 That in real concerts we usually hear bass from monitors, so this kind of bass is not what they expect. But I personally visiting only classical concert halls, so I know what to expect from bass and this midhorn completely corresponds to my expectations.

Regarding spiral horn...the problem is that it is too long (5m) and effectively works only from 50hz. So, I need another channel to cover 20-50hz. And for this region I'm using 21" ported sub. But, I realized, that I have problems of stitching spiral horn and midbass horn. Midbass horn works from 120hz. Spiral just from 50hz to 100hz, but the sound is delayed (5m) and some reflections coming out anyway (5m), so I realized that without it I have less bass, but more clear!
And now I'm working on crossover to make 21" ported sub to work till 100hz.
On the photo it is Focal Utopia sub. But I'm not using it, because it doesn't really make 20hz. 20hz I have from 21" driver in ported enclosure.

Yeah SystemaMurata, fill us in. What prompted the changes?

I bought AER just for experiments. And first, I've connected it to my small Utopia system - replaced Focal Diablo. I hoped that AER will be better than 2-way Diablo in some aspects, but it was better in everything! My small system become even more sweet and resolving than my big GOTO system!
Especially I was impressed with HF! How possible such an incredible HF from 8" driver ? But it is a fact! Never violins was so sweet and vivid. And never piano was so ringing! I've replaced two GOTO HF drivers and RAAL by AER and obviously this was great step forward! Sound become not only higher resolution, but also ease, sweet and more comfortable! Now I'm going to put it in 300hz or 400hz LeCleach horn (will choose the best fit) and replace another GOTO channel. So, eventually I'm having 3 way system:
1. AER in 300-400hz LeCleach
2. GOTO SG-146LD4 in 120hz half LeCleach
3. B&C 21" in ported box

I've made two LeCleach horns 300hz and 400hz for AER to try:

But end up with 550hz AzuraHorn modified to fit 8" driver 🙂

Go on, try the AER in a Kleinhorn you could get rid of the GOTO 120 Hz horn as well.

Something like this:

To be frank, that not only looks terrible, but even without listening , i predict it will sound horrible.
You want to combine a boomy 21" elephant with the extremely fast low midrange compression driver, that will provide you LOTS of horn honk in the lower midrange, with a paper cone with a whizzer, that adds a lot of distortion in the treble. Dont even know why you would add a wave guide to it. If you want to have some kind of integration, you will need to sit far away. Horn colorations, you like ??! Mix it all together, and the screw up becomes perfect !

Good luck with that. Fortunately, as it seems, you have enough money to throw out of the window for crazy experiments.

This works VERY WELL for me

A 4-way. Low bass (below 60Hz) from the infinite baffle 8x15.

The ppsl mid-bass is as good as, or perhaps even better, than horn loaded mid-bass.

Mid range horn is vintage 1931 Jensen/w/ tang band.

tweeter = Stage Accompany.

visitors say: stop tinkering and simply enjoy the music.

I've got a boomy (mms=200Gr) 18in B&C woofer mounted in a heavy stuffed small closed box and it sound deliciously refined 😉

Impossible. GOTO works in 50sm depth horn. So, there is almost zero reflections in working range where length of wave is bigger than horn depth. In the monster backloaded horn we have meters of depth, so as a result you get not single signal, but a lot more reflected from inside the horn and I call it "phase porridge" 🙂
And of course there is no way to TimeAlign front wave and delayed back wave.

Believe me, AER has zero distortion at HF. I'm very sensitive to HF distortion. I've never used horn HF because of it and the only HF I like is from RAAL and top diamond tweeters from Seas and Accuton. So, AER clearly outperforms even them! I've never heard such a perfect "ssssss" and "sh-sh-sh" in voice and violins are very sweet. With any kind of distortion you'll loose sweetness and brilliance. AER's highs are so resolving that not every source works well. You need extremely good DAC or vinyl to get perfect HF, overwise you can hear distortions of your electronics.

Regarding lower mid: I have zero horn coloration, because horn is very short for this frequency range. This is possible only because of LeCleach profile. LeCleach works just from fc and 2 octaves there's is no reflections inside horn. Horn works as clear transformer.

Regarding ported sub: below 100hz this is the best solution. You know that I've tried everything: H-frame, tapped horn, W-bin, Onken, spiral horn and so on. Ported sub with high sensitivity big driver is the best! I don't hear it at all. It just makes big instruments bigger.
