Anyone one know what class-d Quilter is using?
irs2092, self osc or BTL SOC ?
Quilter Performance Amplification
thanks

Ummm...for which product?
They seem to have a few.
Or is this just a post to get people to the site?
If it is then I guess it just worked.
🙂

not at all -no 'push' .
i'm trying to find the most widely used class D components.
doesn't matter if the spec is not the best.
I've been burned with discontinued parts etc.
if I find some high-volume users each using the same part, that's probably a safe one to design in.
no gurantees but it improves the odds.
then maybe the counterfits kick in too.

The best I could come up with...
Patent US20130136278 - Guitar amplifier - Google Patents
Patent US20130136278 - Guitar amplifier - Google Patents
According to another embodiment, when power amplifier circuit 115 is incorporated in a common chassis with sampled subsystems such as digital effects processors, it is often desired to synchronize the switching frequency of the power amplifier with a multiple or sub-multiple of the digital processor clock, to prevent unwanted beat frequencies from developing. For this reason, power amplifier circuit 115 may be configured to operate based on a fixed frequency, rather than a self-oscillating frequency. It should be appreciated that the general principles described herein may be applied to self-oscillating schemes, allowing for possible issues of increased noise or beat tones. In one exemplary embodiment, power amplifier circuit 115 may operate based on a fixed frequency within the range of 150 kHz to 500 kHz. The range of power amplifier circuit 115 may provide a tradeoff of high frequency quality at the lower range against higher switching loss at the higher range. According to one exemplary embodiment, a 250 kHz frequency range can be quite satisfactory in practice.
well i ordered a handfull of tpa3118 finished boards.
the high cost item (for me) is transformer for XLR balanced output.
i have a 12au7 in pre . it cost as much as the finished board.

is that quilter's or your recomend?
Mine, purely biased. 🙂

This is what I use...TPA3116/8 need a low Z source for low noise. IMHO

he has quite a few patents going back to early eighties.
i still reading but yes looks like fixed freq.

I know he uses ICEpower modules in his bass amps, FWIW. The power ratings sound like it might be the 50ASX2, but that's just speculation on my part.

Been testing TPA3118 PBTL and IRS2092 and they are both in the running as 10+ year high volume parts.
Maybe one can back-up the other.
The TPA3118 pbtl is impressive, clips nice too. I think using some film caps will clean up even more this $6 eval board. Doing my own of course.
One set of plots attached is 10W and other 1W
I use an isolation transformer line level balanced input with the 1k 1k .0047 .0047 Mica filter.
I'm feeling really happy on these d-class parts.
Back to the valve hybrid pre.

Milkman Amps in San Francisco use ICEPower Class D modules in their hybrid guitar amps. Very highly rated!!
While we're at it, what does Quilter use in their preamps? FET opamps? Which ones? Or do they use discrete FET circuits?

Looks like jfet opamps. ClassD final.

I took a quick look at all of the patents. Not to take away, all fine equipment but most are Design patents , not Utility type.
So thats it..

Specifically, which opamps? 2134? 1642? 827?Looks like jfet opamps. Class D final.
I have a Quilter 101. But I use it with an Ethos in front. I could probably do without alot of the tone shaping part of the circuit. Would love to build a basic stereo version that responds in a similar fashion to the quilter. Has anyone finished their hybrid builds on this thread?
Mine has been auditioning, well received as hifi or clean instrument amp.
If need true stereo then make as monoblocs.

here is link in lounge area as there is no hybrid thread area.
Hybrid 12au7 - tpa3116 PBTL is the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

Is that your own design jfetter?
That no home for hybrids thread seemed somewhat scarce on details.
Could it be built with a stereo TPA 3118 module instead of 2 monoblocks?
TPA3118 30-W Stereo (BTL) Class-D Audio Amp with SpeakerGuard? Evaluation Module - TPA3118D2EVM - TI Tool Folder
I haven't built anything this complicated in a long time. I did a Millet starving student hybrid headphone amp from a schematic but most of my other projects have been from kits like 41Khz Amp 6.
