200W IRS2092 Amp for $20

Just beginning to read about the 2092.

i have two newer consumer amps with bad amplifier sections and am considering reusing the enclosure and PSU to make a pair of mono amps for my OB woofers. The supply has 50v rails as I understand, and would lend itself well to a 2092 based circuit. I have considered the ones from PE and they may stil be an option, but if I can reuse the existing PS, I will.

There are so many variants out there its difficult to know what is what. I believe the IAUD are high power? I would like 500w per amp in 4ohm mono if possible, the more the merrier too. I know my TPA3116 was great, and am hoping the positive experiences continue with this chip.

Anyone care to send me in a particular direction? Thanks in advance.

Look at L15D or IRAUD200 for not so costy amps.
Hypex is more expensive and better.
Connexelectronic should be good, too.

After searching on the internet i did figure out how to make it work with the two transformers i did buy. I had bought two of thos including two amplifiers to make two speakers.

By connecting transfomer 1
+ to +
- to GRND

And connecting transformer 2
+ to GRND
- to -

The speaker does work. After connecting it to the RPI with a DAC module the sound is very good.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

But now i`m looking for the cheapest way to fix this.
Two transformers like i have where about 22 euro each (so 44 euro together).
I was hoping to build one single speaker for below 100 euro and when i need two transformers i do go over my budget.

Buying the power supply in this topic is a option. When i buy about 4 of them at once the price is about 28 euro each before it is in my country. But i would like to hold my options open, there must be a cheaper or easer way to fix this.

This image indicates there should be another way to do it but i don`t known how.

Cases to go with budget amps!

If you are like me, you have probably been looking for a price-appropriate but nice looking and functional case to put these budget amplifiers and their budget power supplies in.

I can't handle spending $300 on an all aluminum heat finned rack mount case for class AB type amps. But that's about all I can find when looking for something big enough to hold two of these amps and an Abletec power supply.

I don't mind thin steel cases and even better if they have nice aluminum panel fronts. Here are some low cost options. Industrial 3U server rack mount cases. Cheap compared to the audiophile grade stuff they sell - and pretty good looking functional too.

Here's a $50 (shipping included) 3U case:

iStarUSA D-313SE-MATX Black Aluminum / Steel 3U Rackmount Compact Industrial Chassis - Black Bezel 2 External 5.25" Drive Bays - Newegg.com

It just needs a small filler panel on back. If you have an old mini ATX power supply you can use the rear panel from that to get a power switch and IEC power jack.

Finally, a proper setup with Abletec. Sounds great.

I have been doing extended listening of the IRS2092 200W amp and I must say it sounds fantastic. It is perhaps even cleaner sounding than the TPA311x amps with just as much clarity in the top end. I am very sensitive to harmonic distortion and this amp is very clean. It has the advantage of huge headroom for large transients. Bass authority is phenomenal - kind of like a good class AB amp. It's inconvenient as it needs such a big dual rail power supply. Folks who are TPA311x fans should try it. Great amp.

I am driving it with the headphone out from the CD player. I have also driven it with my iPhone and that works well too. Doesn't seem like a difficult load to drive.

You mean add something like 0.1uF caps right next to Vcc and Vee supply pins of the IRS2092? It's an SMD so I will have to carefully add it. However, I think it sounds quite good stock. Do you have example photos of this mod?

I don't have an iPhone but my smartphone sounds more dynamic and more 'air' in the soundstage when its very lightly loaded (>200k). But then it has 3 different output options in the 'settings'.

I added much bigger caps, I think probably already there are some small decouplers (around 10uF, not sure). I may already have photos, will look see or I'll take some more.

Ah I see I already did post a pic, here : http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/275915-200w-irs2092-amp-20-a-7.html#post4542231
