Let's be very precise ! Your math doesn't add up , this is the Ncore thread ! "around" is not acceptable ! we are talking in tenths of thousand here !
😎 Cheers ,
Rens
Because on Hypex datasheets, you have the value of 9W typical only for the SMPS 1200 and 15W typical, max 17W for the NC 1200.
Julf,
I remembered your question and I answered you that I did a lot of checks at that time and those included the lack of HF oscillations with a 300 MHz scope
Thanks - I did have a recollection that you had checked it. but I wanted to be sure.
The NC500 runs at warm to touch case, particularly the stereo config in one case. We have top and bottom vents in the case. All the modules except the Input buffer boards are mounted on a Ally chassis which are screwed down and have thermal paste to connect them to the chassis. They run at the same temp regardless of input. However I had a Sugden A21SE even the knobs got very, very hot!
And the small irony after joining DIYAudio... is you ended up buying a ready-made product! 😀
Indeed, right you are, but I got a box that can be easily modified (and I don't mean just op amp rolling).
You must mean "without colouration"? Discolouration means that it has no colour so "without discolouration" will mean that it sounds coloured.
I meant without undesirable artefacts.
Although English is not my native language I believe discoloured means badly coloured. Without colour would be transparent, but as my woofers were coming apart I wasn't able to make that judgement. 🙄
After all the fuss about science and stuff, how was the Nord nCore? I wonder if it could be modified into single-ended?

Shouldn't be a problem, or you can get the Nord adapter cables...

I am aiming at using my special fairy dust Jorma Origo RCA cable. And this not a joke.

OK, you convinced me to remove my signature line (as it seems to have been a source of annoyance for some people). 🙂
Sorry... I didn't mean to put pressure on anyone to change. It's only my view point afterall.
But I did find that post about his being more humble pretty hilarious..

Hmmm... I don't know what was going on in my head. I was diagnosed as being dyslexic as a teenager (though it doesn't really fit..) but I should understand English better than that ! 😀
You're right, when something is discoloured it is is suffering a change in it's usual colour. I think maybe it doesn't quite work in that particular context but yeah... I should have understood your meaning!

But a valid point...

Have to agree... 🙂

Should be trivial to do - all you need to change is the input connectors. Remember that single-ended driving differential/balanced is no problem (unlike the other way around).
Does anyone know if the SMPS1200A700 can be used for nc400 modules? I know the SMPS1200A400 was recommended previously? Thanks

...may have just answered my own question...

"In our Ncore demo set we use the SMPS1200A700. Basically there is no need to have a special SMPS, but probably we'll develop one to have a nice compatible set..."
...but does this generate extra heat, or what are the downsides to using this SMPS?

The NC400 datasheet specifies the supply voltage as min 35V, typ 64V, max 75V (see section 5 on page 4).
Thanks Tom4s
Wonder how HYPEX got away with using that SMPS as per the link I quoted back then?

Yes, perhaps it was a typo? Or perhaps it was an error on purpose to check if anyone was paying attention? 😀
Anyway, if you continue reading the datasheet you will find that the amp should shutdown if the supply exceeds 75V.
