My DUG boards became my favorite TPA3116D2 build.
It is a perfect fit for my system. What a joy to listen again the music...
Thank you DUG for all your work!

Major differences from the BOM:
C6,C7 - EKZH350ELL222ML25S UCC 35Volts 2200uF
C8, C11 - UMK325AB7106KM-T Taiyo Yuden 1210 X7R 50V 10uF 10%
C9, C10 - CGA5L1C0G2A104J160AC TDK 0.1uF 100volts C0G +/-5% 1.60

From the inductors option list I have:
Coilcraft SER2915L-103KL

Second in my list is the Sure with mods.
Third place is YBDZ and Audiobah YJ clone both of them modded.

From all the boards I didn't listen yet the dual chip board and the SMAKN.

I am thinking about putting together one of these:

with one of these:

A mono TPA3116 board:

and a speaker:

to make a TPA3116 based subwoofer.
Any thoughts or criticisms? Poultrygeist, if you are around, I know you have built (at least one) bucket sub.
I am not sure if the TPA3116 with a 19v 4.74amp laptop power supply will be underpowered for this.

My links didn't work, apologies to all.

I would like to use the pail, Low pass filter, mono TPA3116 and a speaker to build a bucket sub. Images (hopefully) attached, Will this work?

I built these 5 gallon bucket subs powered by a Yung SD300 class D plate amp that I use with Fostex full range single driver speakers driven by the TPA3116/Astron and tube pre.

The buckets use 8 ohm Peerless woofers wired in parallel for 4 ohms so I get the full 300 watts. Anything less might not be enough to get them cranking.

I'll look for and post the link for their construction. Concrete in the bucket sub's bottom makes them quite strong and rigid.

My two bucket subs without grills. As I said earlier they need power and more than the TPA3116 sub boards I've seen can supply. Ed Schilling, the designer, uses a Crown class D amp to power his.

You'd have to hear them to believe what they can do. After hearing Ed's pair I couldn't build mine fast enough.

These look............. totally intriguing!!!

Thanks for the link. Look like even my clumsy hands could handle the job. May be I should give it a whirl.

Hi all,

With my English far to be perfect, I maybe haven't been clear about my project.
So please find at the links bellow some pictures.
I went to keep the possibility to adjust separetely the right and left speaker,
And I am not sure what would be the best idea

I have 1 of this amp:
50WX2 Official Version Finished TPA3116D2 Class T Digital Power Amplifier Board | eBay

And planning to by 2 of this one:
Yuan Jing Audio - ON SALE! - TPA3116 Class-D 2.0 Stereo Amplifier Board [50W+50W] - USD $16.99 - Class-D & T

1st possibility:
PCB - HostingPics.net - Hébergement d'images gratuit

2nd possibility
2PCBCopy - HostingPics.net - Hébergement d'images gratuit

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Have you entered the speaker's data into an enclosure design program to see if the pail is the correct volume?

You may have to reinforce the top/bottom of the pail.
Thanks Dug
I will put 2 -3 inches of concrete in the pail, for stability and reinforcement (per plans I have found - Thanks Poultrygeist). This will reduce the volume somewhat, and volume will be within Focal specs. I will probably look for a cheaper, higher sensitivity speaker to match the volume of the pail initially. I did not know there was such a thing as an enclosure calculator before you enlightened me, so thank you!
I intend to use a mutton cloth "sock" (I got the idea from GoldenEar speakers) to disguise the pail and improve aesthetics and WAF.

The concrete is what makes it work! 🙂

Very cool.

I have a pair of TB 740Q that I have been experimenting with, trying to find a good enclosure. But their low Qts would probably not work with this bucket design. One of them is powered with a TDA7498E giving me, at best guess, 120W.

I have been doing a lot of concrete work in the backyard lately, and still have some available, I might try to pour that in the base of an enclosure I already made for it.

Dam you Pultrygeist and your camera angles! I've looked at the picture a number of times and wondered why anyone would build subs I 44gal drums, why they would build them bigger than the couch, why....oh wait they are sitting elevated on a table close to the camera!

By the way, I blame you for my latest purchase, 2*100w dual chip. Dam addictive things.

Has anyone modded the dual chip board yet? I will most likely be replacing the combined pot/power switch with dedicated pot and separate power button.

According to my personal experience the YJ black&blue board is a waste of time and money. The "official version" is even worst especially the board quality. From all the TPA3116D2 boards that I've tried this is the last one in the list. Any other board is a better choice. (and there are many)

I know the bucket subs are somewhat off topic here but you can't expect good results by using just any woofer. These work with the $66 eight inch Peerless woofers from Parts Express.

Their inventor, Ed Schilling of Hornshoppe fame ( also invented the Truth preamp ) is adamant not to deviate from his original plans.

The bucket subs aren't someone's folly they're seriously good and will put many expensive subs to shame.

Jonesy, you're right this stuff is highly addictive but it's mostly affordable. You spend more on a pizza than a dual chip board and unlike the pizza the board doesn't end up in the john.
