Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

DoP is a regular PCM from the POW of the driver. IMO the driver does not even know about it.

The device needs to detect the DoP header byte in the 3-byte "PCM" samples and switch to the DoP mode. It may require enabling the detection but I doubt it, IMO it should keep detecting continuously.

IF this device supports DoP which I do not know.
The key thing is to ake sure that volume controls are disabled in LMS and
Daphile. It means set volume to max, disable crossfade etc. LMS and Daphile should provide bit perfect data stream. If you suspect that LMS incorrectly encodes DSD data, try to encode file manually from DSF (or whate original is) to DoP using Foobar2000. Then play resulting WAV lr FLAC file. It should be recognized as DSD by DAC.

I encountered a problem yesterday while attempting to import and store a track that I had purchased earlier in the day and was residing on a USB stick. When I went to "File Management" I found that all USB drives, the large Seagate drives and the little USB stick, had a lock symbol on their icons, and that there appeared to be no way to copy the file from the USB stick to the large storage drive that I use for music file storage. This was the case whether or not the "RW" box was ticked and whether or not the "Share" box was ticked.

There must be some simple method to import music by means other than the ripping CDs, but I'm not finding it. Can anyone help? TIA - Pat

There must be some simple method to import music by means other than the ripping CDs, but I'm not finding it.

I remember having this problem and I think the USB became accessible with a reboot.

With storage, I rip or convert everything to FLAC (level 8). If I rip on my laptop, I rip to WAV and use MediaHuman Converter to convert to FLAC, add or correct tags with MP3Tag, and then use Windows Explorer to transfer it to my NAS (or as easily to the Daphile box).

I am using latest version of Daphile (15.08) on HP Mini 100e with Atom N455 and mini pci-e Realtek RTL8191SE WLAN card, everything works flawlessly, i have only one problem, if i enable "WiFi Hotspot" feature, Daphile cannot start withou freezing at loading up, i must hard shutdown computer and disable hotspot function in safe mode /loaded daphile version 14/ . How to solve this ?? (change wlan card from another manufacturer ? i dont know which wlan adapter is perfectly compatible with linux - daphile(gentoo))

Thank you

A question from a 35 year audiophile. I've built PCs, DACs, amplifiers, and programmed a bit in a couple of languages. That said, I've never done anything with servers.

I searched to see what I could find explaining how to install and use Daphile but it all seems to be above my head, including this thread.

Are there any guides out there that might be understood by a server noobie?

I tried to run Daphile from USB on my main Win 7 machine. I get into initial setup and after TCP and sub mask I was asked for "Router", "DNS Servers" and "Search Domains"

I know generally what each of these three refers to but didn't have a clue to the specifics relative to this situation.

I thought all I would need to provide would be the information so that Daphile could connect through my router to the laptop where I will put music for testing purposes. I have enabled bridge mode on the router and enabled file sharing in Windows 7 on the laptop.

I do have a spare XP machine I could wipe and install Daphile on if that would be the preferred way to go, or I could put any other OS on the XP machine and put the music on there.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hello Chinook9,

did you check the installation instructions?

http://www.daphile.com/download/Instructions.pdf

this should be a good starting point for setting up Daphile. When you start Daphile from a USB-stick it should give you a feel how Daphile works. Usually you would not need to bother about TCP-IP settings in case you use a router with DHCP-function, because this will provide an IP-address automatically. Sometimes it may be a bit of a problem to "find" your Daphile-system; sometimes you will not be able to go to "http://daphile.local" through your browser. If that's the case you need to sort out the IP-address in another way. Some routers can show all of the IP-devices via the setup-page within the Router (I myself use a Netgear-router which does this). You can also use an IP-scanner program via an ordinary PC.
In case you would like to setup the IP-address most of the time you set your router IP-address for both "Router" and "DNS Server". Search Domain is not relevant in case you use Daphile inhouse.
Since Daphile is based upon Logitech Media Server you can find a lot of information about that via Google and also Squeezebox : Community : Forums. When you are going to use an old PC you can make that dedicated for Daphile. You then need to use something as your audio-target. This can be the internal analog audio-port, but it depends if that one is recognized by Daphile (a not so old PC may contain the right hardware for Daphile), but you can also connect an USB-DAC which will "stream" the music to your Hifi-equipment or whatever audio-target you are going to use. For this you will use squeezelite or squeezeplay (included in Daphile). This program is a sort of softwareplayer which emulates a Squeezebox device.
I hope this may help you with trying Daphile?

Thank you for the reply. I had printed out the Daphile .pdf but because I have no experience with servers I don't understand what it is telling me.

After Daphile loaded from USB it asked me for (I believe) >tcp/IP >sub-mask >router >DNS servers >Search domains:

I expect all of the above is subsumed by 4 a) of the "Instructions" but I don't know.

I'll continue to do some research and see if I can figure it out. I may just install it on my spare machine and see if the Daphile installer gives me options I can understand.

Thanks again.

Hi,

my Gustard u10 Interface doesn work with daphile (15.09). daphile recognizes it correct as XMOS Device, Hardware Limit 384khz. I can play Flac correct with 44.1 and 88.2khz but i can't get any sound with all other saple rates (DAC doesn't lock but daphile plays the File). My Dac is an Aqvox which supports up to 24/192khz is connected via AES and SPDIF to the Gustard U10.
Any Ideas how i can play Hires Files with the Gustard U10?

Another XMOS Device (Cheap China DAC) with XMOS Chip plays up to 192khz with Daphile without any Problems.

Cheers

New beta version

There is a new test version of Daphile with multi-band equalisation available. It is available in all versions; 486, x64, and RTx64.

Details here:https://www.facebook.com/Daphile. Testing now. Normal play is ....... normal. I haven't given equalisation a try yet.

Hi, apart from multiband equalisation Kimmo incorporated BruteFir! This makes it possible to make room correction! This is a very useful feature for those who have room acoustical problems. And I would state, most of us have it.
I made my filters with Acourate, Daphile is playing now with the generated filters. And specially my bass is playing now in another league. Wonderful tight and precise bass. Thanks Kimmo!

an you give some guidance how to create the filters? I am thinking of using BruteFir, but I have no direct clue how to start with it. I would like to buy a not-so-expensive microphone that can be used with a PC, but have no idea which type I would need for this ... ?!? I tried to find information on the Internet, but from what I've read until so far I do not see the way to go.

Hi,I have installed Daphile to a laptop internal hard drive. All is working fine except that I don't see an option to add whole album folders to the internal drive music folder.
I am able to add individual music by the 'upload' icon, but not a folder.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You are right that I need to add an explicit "written offer" about the source code availability for the GPL and LGPL licensed code. I'll add it soon. However the whole distribution cannot be licensed under a single generic license agreement, eg. GPL.

Hi, I would like to know if the version of Logitech media server and squeezelite you are using are the ones from 'standard' repositories:

https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver
https://code.google.com/p/squeezelite

or have been modified by any matter to be included in Daphile. If so, since both are distrbuted under the GNU GPLv3 licence, I would like to know where to find sources and instruction about how to produce (means build for squeezelite) and deploy modified versions in Daphile, if I'm allowed to do so (should be, but how?).

I think you 'll be better providing this information directly on the credits page for each component you are using, then we miss the overall licence terms of use and distribution of Daphile:

I'm I allowed to modify included GPL licensed components?
I'm I allowed to distribute the resulting modified version of Daphile?

Tanks in advance for your kind answers.

Marco

Hello to the Community!

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I'm a 37 years old music lover from Germany (I try to avoid the therm "audiophile".) Half a year ago, I sat up a little Daphile system which runs like a charm. It fulfils most of my demands, just one thing does not work as expected: I can't manage to copy files directly from my Daphile-PC to any external device (HDD, SD card or USB drive) via the Daphile GUI. Since my Daphile-PC is connected via a slow wlan connection, it makes no sense to copy those huge files via my Windows PC. Is there any possibility to copy directly?

Best regards

Dirk
