6.5" woofer choice

The SB drivers have a prominent breakup region which needs to be dealt with in the Xover.
I have both ER18RNX & CA18RLY; the ER18 is more 'analytic', but lacks bass, I much prefer the CA18RLY, rich mids & plenty of bass, at the expense of a larger box & smaller voice coil probably can't handle as much power. The RNX is probably somewhere in the middle

For a modern sound the ER18RNX is the more advance design with its stiffened paper cone is going to reveal mid detail that exceeds the CA without harshness.

I never bothered with the CA. It is well made but the ER has more potential. The final sound is what you make it in your system - the cross over, the parts, the amplifier and so on. The softer CA cone is more forgiving, giving a more classic (older) type of sound. A few prefer that. I dont. If you want more bass especially if in a bigger room you need bigger woofer say 8" or even 10" still using same tweeter. I would then consider a U22RNX or Eminence Deltalite II 10".

thank you.
i mean if the bass of er18 are the same of ca18, or if at the same price are better performer in the bass region always 6.5"
few say that the er18 has tiny bass, does this true ?

so the er18 has the same bass of ca18rnx ?
The CA has higher bass sensitivity as the suspension is more compliant. But neither is really good for bass as they have to stiff a suspension and are too small. The tweeter is capable of running with a bigger say even a 10" as prev stated.

The CA18RNX as others have said will deliver 3 - 4 dB more into the bass. But the lower distortion of the ER with the stiffer cone will keep in control better with better mid. They are so similar in design, but stiffer cone and copper pole sleeve equals better quality reproduction. One cannot have it both ways, at this price point

If you want a real bass a bigger woofer is a must. say a 22 or even 26 series

It all depends on how you design the speaker. If you simply cross the ER18 to the tweeter, yes, bass will be on the lean side. To get bass out of the ER18, you'll need to have a shelving filter to lower the mids. You'll lose quite a bit of sensitivity but you will get nice strong and low bass. It's all a trade off.

It would be better to leave the mid alone at first and bring the tweeter down to match. A ported enclosure tuned to about 50 Hz or lower will bring the lower bass up anyway.

Tight punchy bass

Diypass,
Some mentioned the SR71, great speaker; next to impossible to diy something better, for the cost.
That said, looks like you are looking for BASS, have you heard the Anarchy? Gesh, it's a little bass monster - with great mids. There are a few designs out there with it and a $50 Dayton tweeter, which is also in a class of its own.

SF's - have several. With a simple mod, it is a real contender with drivers 2 - 3 times the cost.

no diy kit, please

I think Doug was specifically pointing out the woofer - a helluva performer by all accounts, and available as individual units for those disposed to rolling their own.

If "diy" in the name of a parts distributor gives you enough pause to not follow the link, might you want to reconsider your moniker?

please explain me better, thank you

This is what I did with my ER18. Notice the shelving filter (1.5mH//4R7) before the crossover. Without this, the bass will be very lean. You can see from the FR plot the mids are not exaggerated. More info can be found here.

SF is a 60watt? driver with 11mm peak to peak , the SEAS are if I remember 90watt RMS, 300 watt intermittent max with 22mm PP and bigger voice coil. So they can move a lot more air.

The Anarchy are better specd for mids -stiffer suspension. If you make it yourself the Zaph SR71 project has all the info you need.
