I hate when people say 'sounds like a 12', you shouldn't be able to tell anything besides distortion, frequency response cut-off/flatness and maximum output. For reference an 8 inch driver in a proper folded horn can output flat to 25 hz at a level equal to a 15 in a ported box. There are several high end subs from stereo integrity designed to be used in undersized enclosures and will provide more linear travel and power handling but they cost 250$, if I had limited space I'd go with that. Until then I'll keep my lab12 loaded 8 cubic foot folded horn playing at low power because it simply doesn't distort at any reasonable level.
Which would have deeper bass 1 12 or 2 10s
Typically speaking, it will be easier to tune the single 12 lower due to lower fs (usually accompanies larger drivers ) and smaller total vas. Of course everything depends on the ports, or transmission line/path length.
Very interesting ... How hard is it to build a folded horn enclosure?I hate when people say 'sounds like a 12', you shouldn't be able to tell anything besides distortion, frequency response cut-off/flatness and maximum output. It's about 3x longer than building a (standard) 6 sided box with a port. Main issue tends to be that most are too large for car use. Check out Billfitzmaurice.info he has 2 designs that could work for you: trucktuba and Autotuba.
No, subs may be on the different plane, it doesn't matter. If I build a second cab it will occupy a different location and if I understand correctly the subs should be on the same plane.
