Hotpot is a sort of casserole with potato slices over the top, it is served in a small baking dish and is f*cking delicious! It doesn't take long to make and a little beer added with some salt and pepper goes a long way. It's my favourite thing on a cold day, it embodies that domestic that you want to come home to after a long day.

Those little mushrooms in Coq au Vin, though 😀 !

Lancashire hotpot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm going to add that to my repertoire. I love lamb, but I think this would be perfect with any of the wild venison meats, as well. I think stout would be a nice addition.

They always go on about "Betty's Hotpot" on Corrie. If anything, my family would find it novel and fun to have "hotpot' while we catch up on some Corrie.

Before continuing reading I had the fear you took your family with you to shoot your butcher with your rifle ! 😀

One of my daughters has taken a few hares. My wife and other daughter have only been along for the hike.

They are all unsure whether they can pull the trigger on a deer. It will be their decision, but either way they will fully understand what it means to be a meat eater. If we choose to eat meat, we are all killers. Some of us can pull the trigger, and some of us just pay someone else to do it. I will not force them to pull the trigger, but I will force them to realize the importance of the decision.

This is going to get political very quickly, so I will leave this as it is. I respect all people's choice to choose what they eat, but I do not respect hypocrisy.

Canadians watching Coronation Street, whatever next!

Still I suppose the Canadian version might be a little dull. I saw a documentary where you guys don't even bother locking your doors. Seems like the world can't get enough of that unique British scumminess that our television shows are laced with 😉 .

Hotpot is my favourite thing cause it's so easy. You just put lamb or beef, some cheap stock, whatever vegetables you have in the fridge and maybe last nights beer leftovers in a baking dish, add a little seasoning and layer potato slices on the top. I'm a university student so I don't really have time for more complex 'European' cooking.

I just love good solid, no nonsense, casseroles made with nice chunky ingredients 😀 . I suppose I'm just a simple guy like that.

My doggie does not know how to use a computer.

Politics, religion, and discussion of moderation are the big no-nos. Anything else is fair game.

Normal, you didn't know than the pyrenean dogs were the most stupids in France ! Mine is able to ! He has often a computer key board on one of her (it's a girl) tooth ! keyboard is like a tennis ball for her !

Ah for me GW Busch is not politic anymore in the context I posted, nore Dr Folamout movie ! Maybe it was an american interpretation of what politic/religion are 😀 ! Here our ancient president are not pope anymore !

For me they (the dr Fola.... & G-W B... are both in the (wolrdwide) culture aera ... just History !

I will just talk about japoneese mangas now !

There is no Canadian version of Corrie. It's the same one millions in the UK watch. Tons of Canadians watch Corrie. Probably more than Americans, and Americans outnumber us ~10:1.

It is one of very few programs we watch at my house.

I can relate to the desire for "home foods", especially during the winter months. Shepard's pie, stews, casseroles, etc. Stuff that really sticks to your ribs.

They don't bother to lock their door because they don't need ! Look how they cook, no one would try to enter.... 🙂

More seriously : should be happy to have a link to a good national canadian receipe ! (with no items too hard to source in France !)

There is no such thing.

The truly most Canadian thing I can think of is Cottage Cheese and Maple Syrup:

Ingredients:

Cottage cheese - whipped with hand blender
Maple syrup - pure, Canadian maple syrup (medium to dark is better than the premium light stuff)

Put whipped cottage cheese in a bowl, and add a generous amount of maple syrup.

Enjoy with a "hot cross bun"

This is a desert, by the way.

Trust me SY, if you could smell this food you wouldn't need any weed 😀 !

I dunno. I've met some interesting "eaters" in my time on this planet.

I knew one guy who ate nothing (literally nothing) except "chicken fingers" and french fries. With ketchup (catsup). He is forty-seven now and I have not seen him for 20 years, but friends tell me he looks like he is 70 years old.

I have a friend from china who sucees to marry a japoneese girl ! He is a brillant guy and can speak 6 languages and the japonese fluently ! He worked ten years in Tokyo as well and enhanced his japonese speaking (but talked before because worked for a japonese company in Paris !). I don't have to say to you how it could be hard to a japoneese father to give his only girl to a man who has chineese origins ! When people are nice all the frontiers collapse !.... I'm a little jealous of such guy who can be able to speak many language as I'm not even able to speak/write english good enough ! They have three children now and she is like a sort of hero in Japan family to have more than one child (or even one !)...

I had the luck to be invited in Tokyo in the family of his wife in their house (and lived a mini hearthquake !) ! Very, very , very great souvenirs and lovely people ! Visited the rest of Japan during one month in an other travel... 🙂. (all the main 4 islands.... I like too much the onsen !... and a beer after !)

I find this language particulary nice to the ears !

If I were smelling that, I would be barfing. 😀

Pizza for me last night. Now THAT is food. Road kill boiled in beer, not so much.

Right, because everyone knows the best pizza is made in the USA. 😀

I don't know where you think road kill came into the conversation. All I spoke of is fresh, organic, delicious wild meat.

By the way, if you like pizza, you would love the one I make with grouse, roasted red peppers, brie and balsamic-carmelized onions.

I agree 100% about onsen and beer after! I love to listen to Japanese people speaking, especially the women. Men and women speak almost a different language there. My wife is from a very small town in the middle of Kyushu. Onsen and shochu and rice fields and mountains. Paradise.

You'r kidding me 😉 All the countries have famous and national receipes !

I believe it's impossible to find a good mapple syrup in France (or if anyone has an adress ?) ! Your receipe should be very good with a fresh fromage of the south of France : La Brousse, which is a very delicate cheese (is it not strange for France in relation to the camembert ! : [Corse] Omelette à la brousse [brocciu ou bruccio] et au basilic | Les Papilles Estomaquées...Les Papilles Estomaquées…
Note you can eat it with olice oil too : here we are more in the way japoneese likes food : infinite subtle variations !
