A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input)

new transformer

Hello,
i did get my r core today. Did already inform at Doede about the output transformers from sowther. Then waiting for the new boards.
greetings, Eduard

Hi James along with upgrading each cap To 10,000 uf, this is a sketch of the circuit after the last capacitor in place of the bleed resistor.
I'll see if I can put this together over the weekend and compare with the existing unregulated PSU that I currently have.

Are you aware this is basically turning this to a regulated supply again which is not what the choke supply is all about? The diagram is not so clear though.....

I think this was the point. Raw psu to shunts. Making another shunt reg on the line between psu and already mounted shunts will only increase the impedance, slowing down whole process and effect we are after.
Well, I'm a baker too :-D But to me it translates like this.
Please correct me if I was wrong.

Well I finally took the plunge and ordered DDDAC 1794 kit with 2 Dac boards 12 volt supply and a 5 volt supply. Have been looking at this kit for a long time. Currently I have all music stored stored in Flac files on laptop and use the 3.5mm headphone jack to feed pre-amp. Doesn't sound to bad Flac files way better than the MP3. Only thing I am going to miss is being able to control volume remotely from smart phone. I am using Monkeymote 4 to control foobar 2000 via wifi. Pretty nice to sit outside and add music to the queue.

Welcome aboard banffskiing. You might want to check out for other nice music software in the market.
One nice example is JRiver (I think most popular on many audio forums)
JRiver Overview
It has wide range of compatible remote controls as well as android, mac and linux apps for controlling the computer music box. With this application you will discover many other possibilities and functions that are very handy.

Try
a - suck the tin from both sides of the board
b - you need a help of another person while you are melting the tin on wires, ones one is lose an another person slowly pulls them out from the holes using pincers
or c - cut all of them, unsolder all of them and replace all of them for new ones (entire lenght wires - best silver wires)
Use good tin sucking pump or good quality desoldering wick.

I imagine to proceed as follow: cut all the wires close to the mainboard surface, and simply solder an short extension silver cable (one for each cutted wire) to make the connection with the mainboard. This seems the simpliest for me.

Is there a problem with this simple approach ?

Thanks for your input chaps, got back to the guru who recommended the mod to the unregulated PSU and he didn't realise the DAC had regs installed, he was looking at the original DDDAC design.
So that clears up the confusion. 🙂

Well yes, but the DDDAc original supply is well regulated, very quiet, measures well, and the Dac always has the standard regs fitted. A friend has added a simple choke regulated supply to the satndard regs and reports a decent improvement in SQ so, unlike your bowels, looser is better when it comes to psus!
