Hi Guys,

After an Acko S03 failure due my poor smd soldering skills plus the groupbuy is now in the hundred quantity, I decided not to proceed with this delicate mod concerns I could do more damage to my DDDAC which deems very satisfactory to my ears right now. 😉

I know I will kick myself later, but...., can't risk it with my skills!

So the order as it stands
ahh that's a shame. Don't be disheartened! The S03 is very fiddly to put together (I had to re-do mine a number of times because of silly soldering faults) but these CCS boards, although they use SMD, will be much easier than the S03. The 2SK208-O only have 3 legs and they're not close to each other
$_35.JPG
and the resistors are 1206 size, which is a lot larger than those in the S03.
Once you have the CCS boards built, it's simple to test them, then adding them to your dac boards (although means taking your stack apart again) is a very simple soldering job with no fiddly bits.
Of course it's your choice, but don't let the very fiddly S03 put you off this, because it's quite different.
Hope that helps one way or another 🙂
James

It is not so difficult... the parts are not so tight and the most complicated ones are the BFs. With a little patience and a magnifier I am sure you will do it 🙂

Regards,
Enrico

PS: I will resend your post with the total figures updated

Thanks, after I posted I could see it was wrong but did not know what to do.

I want the buffer board and parts, too.

Take care and happy new year!

No problem Rick and the buffer board and part are ok.

You are not the only one... Superberg did the same and I will resend the CCS list corrected 🙂

Please guys, update the latest list in the thread.

Thanks to ALL of you for the unexpected performance of the GB. Tomorrow I will close the GB and by Monday/Tuesday I will inform everybody here about the cost of the boards and the shipping.

With this figures I can estimate that the CCS board will be 2,5 USD and the Buffer board will be 12 USD but let me ask a confirmation from the manufacturer when the GB is closed.

Best Regards,
Enrico

It certainly would not offend me if you put some extra in the price for your troubles. And while we are at it there should be consideration for carlsor.

The prices quoted are extremely reasonable. Almost too reasonable.

I am sure there will be much more time spent on this than you expect and I think we should compensate you for that quantity always in limited supply.

I doubt there are any of us who would feel otherwise.

Rick,

Your post make me proud and happy of my time spent in this GB that BTW is my first GB. THANKS!!!

My intention opening the GB is just to help ALL of you guys to improve, if possible, the fantastic DDDAC. This for me is the true spirit of the DIYers. Isn't?

And know that you all will have my own small part in your DDDAC makes me really proud 🙂

Thanks again,
Enrico

1/2 Clock Delay - Another GB?

Hi All,

One of the modifications explained by carlsor is the 1/2 clock delay circuit that is in my opinion a must to have if you own the red board.

Here is the design of the PCB. If somebody is interested on it I can run another GB... the board is small (30 mm x 15 mm) and the minimum quantity to place the order is 20 board.

I install the 1/2 clock delay in my red board and I can confirm that is a HUGE step ahead.

I attached few pictures of my red board where you can see how is integrated the 1/2 clock delay (it is not my PCB but the result is the same). You can easily put the board in the middle of the red board, mark the holes for the cables and make the small holes that you need to connect with the red board.

If you are afraid about the SMD I can also send the board with the 2 VHC already soldered.

So, as usual, please add your name below 🙂

Hi All,

Here is the design of the PCB.
Excellent work!
I made my own and it was very fiddly, but this looks neat and tidy and much simpler. I am jealous that people will have it so easy now! 🙂
I can highly recommend this mod for anyone with the older red mainboard. The improvement in the clarity of sound was well worth it to create my own from scratch, but now it's all done for you it's a no brainer.
🙂

Buffer GB

I just increase my pre-order by a second set of the buffer 🙂
thanks!
