Slewmaster - CFA vs. VFA "Rumble"

My posted amp build is so close to the HK990 (spooky + 5 pair OPS).
I repaired a 990 , curious to see if more capacitance and a more anal design 😀
will exceed the 990 - a VERY hard to beat amp .

PS - yes .."kypton C" is the ticket (tubey sound + low thd). I actually have these ,
If I swap some pins around on ksa1015/ksa1815's - I could build them...

Has anyone worked on an OPS bias like this or similar --- reducing Class AB switching distortion ??

Using Schottkeys in a circuit like this results in smoother crossover, although it still has the crossover blip like a typical class AB output stage does. Pay attention to Kenpeter's posts especially.

Also, the diodes at 0.3V or 0.6V experience less dynamic thermal drift than the power transistors do at 50V or so. It would be interesting to work out the thermal compensation for this circuit.

I'm glad my choice of ksc3503/ksa1381 / 2sc3263/2sa1294 / and njw 0281/0302 is
super stable for the EF3 !!

Better than my H/K680 , set at 12mv Re ... cycles between 11.8 -12.2 mv
Put it outside (3 C) - still 12mv .

85ma current draw from the rails = no oscillation , (25ma IPS + 60ma OPS)
...that super stable bias proves it.

Then I actually HEARD it !! Super detailed and pure - too bad I did not have more
mica , I'd put all 5 pair in and "thrash it" with the 1KVA setup. 😀

BTW - merry Christmas :hohoho::hohoho::deer: and all that GOOD stuff ! Maybe Santa
will bring you a "slewmaster". :happy2:

You dropped too many IPS all at one time and I built them all so fast that none of them really got a good listen. Between you, Valery and Apex I have built or am building about 10 amps in the last two months. Too many, must slow down.

What does a slew with 75V+ sound like at major volume ? I'm just running at
a lowly 1-pair / 40 V rails now 😱 .
It does noticeably sound better than my 40W pioneer with 1 pair OP.
I'm "hooked now" .... I'll try Jwilheim's kypton C boards AND I'll end up
building the infidel. Time to take control 😀 .

Do any of you have Measurements for kypton C amplifier (120W@8 ohm) like:
Open loop gain?
Closed loop gain?
Slewrate?
Outputstage testet BJT or Fets?

Will someone make a PCB for the Kypton C amplifier?

Sorry for all the questions - I´m just blowned away regarding this exiting thread🙂

Kypton - C =
-closed loop gain @ 68db LF down to about 40db @ 20K ( 13db gain margin)
(below 1)
Slew is compensation cap dependent and input filter dependent.
As built ,about 250V/us.
The "C" 's best trait is the "soft clip" of the super-pair (tubey nature) and
the very low servo'ed offset.

Member Jwilhelm has boards , not sure how many ?
I'll be trying them VERY soon.

Only 2 bursts of development - between posts #500 -1628 and 4729 -5753.

Kypton C is listed in the first post as #4729 - checked the ZIP , current schema
is there.

The "INFIDEL V2" has me "going" on the thermals of all these IPS's.
May sound crude - put my spooky and wolverine in the freezer. 😱 Upon
hooking them to my OPS ..... both have a slight positive co-efficient. The
VAS's rise from 5.1 - 5.3ma ( -10 to 22C). OPS has a slight negative tendency ,
it actually even's out perfectly.

Will do the same for the Infidel ..... 😀 Merry Xmas and good new year , Miib.

Simple "DIRTY" VFA ....

Brother Val has the "clean" one - I have the "dirty one".

Already built and tested this 5 years ago - the ol' "BX" (below).

Bootstrapped VAS / 7 device simplicity - as "low/dirty" as you can go ....
(omit ALL CCS's and the servo) 😀 .

I'll make this layout a virtual "playground" for P3A and "DX" lovers. 😎

Now what do you mean between a dirty and clean VFA, is that related to distortion numbers or what?

A "dirty " VFA is one you can piece together while drunk and still hear
music in the end. 😛
PS - It can go from 20ppm to .01% THD20 depending on the options used. 😎
A great "beginner" IPS.
Edit - think of the bootstrap as a "dirty" type of current FB - speaker to VAS direct !!
