Here, on my Island, we're just waiting for the big one.
And no matter how solid your home is; we're all going to be flooded real good.
So just hold on to something real concrete, and high enough. ...Like a mountain.

Yes, there are some rather expensive 4K boxes for sale in the big box stores. As with the introduction of color TV in the late 1950's and 3D TV a few years ago, there is very little content available to play on those TV's, so why would anyone buy one?
Cause they look beautiful and are fun to watch?
Comcast speed is dependant not only on how many are using it at a given moment but on how much speed you paid for. The basic speed wont do streaming of HD movies but if you ask, you can buy more guarenteed minimum speed. That is what I did. And got one of their HDMI box. Now I can stream Netflix HD and all their 3D movies for cheap. And, the UHD will upscale 1080 to 4K.
I am in Bangkok, Thailand right now furnishing my new little condo. Got a Samsung UHD 3D curved screen 55 incher for the condo. Amazing picture quality from cable here as well as internet. 4.50 USD a month for high speed cable/internet. Wish I could get such a deal in the states.

seismic event, or a..hurricane? Fortunately I don't have to worry about either..
Same same, only thing to watch is how things are shaking in Venezuela.
(2nd half of the year, a lot of boats in the bay are hurricane season sleepovers)

We get seismic events.......
Now you're just 100 miles from the "New Madrid Seismic Zone"
New Madrid won't have much effect east of Nashville which is several hundred miles west.
I think Knoxville is supposed to have minor cracks in foundations.
That is going to be a big one when it hits. It will disrupt commerce throughout the N.A. continent, and ripple across the entire world.

The New Madrid Seismic Zone runs along the Mississippi River. True, damage from an 1895 magnitude 6 quake reached well into Ohio and the quake was felt across all of West Virginia. We are located along the Ohio river between Ohio and Pennsylvania.
We had to build our house with about half of the basement out of the ground because FEMA claims that there is a "once in a hundred years" possibility that the river could reach that height. If it did the entire city of Moundsville would be under water....even the entire courthouse where said FEMA person has his office!
Because of this the ground floor had to be at or above 662 feet above sea level. The courthouse is at 645 feet according to the GPS in my phone.

I hope you all survive and can go on with your way of lives without local armageddons - if they occure - don't hesitate to help... Please don't wish accident for your next being. My best wishes of luck to everyone 🙂

USGS said that the area of perceptibility of the 1811 fault was 5,000,000 km^2 or a radius of over 1200 km. I think I will worry about ebola instead.
Reports I read about the New Madrid quake indicated it rang church bells in Boston.
I've read that the 1811-1812 quakes peaked with a magnitude 7.
Surface damage is much worse along New Madrid than San Andreas due to differences in geological structure. The New Madrid effects an area which is more plastic and the shock waves produce ripples in the surface much like waves. The resulting effected area is much larger.

Bad enough for those within.

George you might want to look into HughesNet or DishNet as alternatives to cable or dsl internet. I suspect they are cost competitive with comcast and the local telco.. Satellite is typically 3 - 5X faster than mid tier dsl.
We have very slow Verizon dsl service here in a suburb of Boston, and get our TV via DirecTV which has kept us pretty happy for about six years now.
You might even be able to get a bundle through one of the satellite providers.

How do you guys coping with life in your area? ...Any disaster showing on the horizon? ...Life is good, women are pretty, people are happy?

Things are getting under control now; after they fired most of the responsible for this enormous fiasco. ...This is no joke, real serious.

Or you can get an Iridium hot-spot:
Iridium GO! Satellite Hotspot - Sporty's Pilot Shop
Iridium unfortunately is very bandwidth limited, for web access only mobile websites are supported, and it is expensive. It is however, very portable.. 😉
where said FEMA person has his office..is at 645 feet
Win-Win.
