Hi GB members
Participations and every confidence you all lay in me, gave me a great deal of responsibility to bring First One project over the finish line without any complications. All your payments are registered and sorted in order according to GB list and time of received transactions, deliveries will follow this confirmation list precisely in order. First batch of deliveries starts to travel the world today and will continue each day until the whole list will be checked out completely.
GB members who ordered modules and chassis will receive materials as soon all chassises will be produced, expecting somewhere in a time schedule of 3-4 weeks.
I also would like to thank all DIY audio members who ordered First One modules directly via PM.
Best regards, Lazy Cat

Payment sent thanks (Not so ) Lazy Cat ;-)
No surprise to me on SMPS BTW...Hypex is very solid and always has been. In fact I hear Bel Canto uses their SMPS for their new Black series amplifiers with tweaks of course...gotta justify the $50k price range somehow ;-) Well there is more to it than that but Bel Canto is solid engineering and always has been.
I recall seeing at some point a thread on Hypex SMPS tweaks...is that one alive and well? If so can't find it and would appreciate a link. perhaps LC will take up such a thread after all the First One's go out.

Assuming that Bel Canto guys wouldn't like to make a fool of themselves, they surely tested few amps and PSUs before filling those black alu blocks with Hypex technology. I know they're using the same ABC PCB Media renderer in their Black Stream Controller as I have here.
There's a lot of SMPS producers on the market, picking the right one is just a matter of time and energy spent, quite a lot of listening sessions needed to find the right SMPS.I recall seeing at some point a thread on Hypex SMPS tweaks...is that one alive and well? That's exactly what I have in plan to do over the weekend, results will be very satisfactory for GB members, especially the ones decided to use SMPS1200A400....or maybe he will design a speaker protection based on smps´s DC error input 🙂
Hi LC,
maybe I lost this piece of info in the thread ... but is one SMPS1200A400 suitable for supplying two FO modules, that is, a full stereo amp?
Have you already tested it? How was its musical impression?
It would help us to understand if Esperado's opinion and experience about single power supply is valid or not for your particular FO amp supplied by the most appreciated SMPS of the lot ...
Thx

Hi Nicola
After deciding which kind of SMPS (regulated vs. unregulated) sounds better with First One, as noted clearly it was unregulated SMPS1200A400, this weekend we'll perform listening test single vs. dual SMPS1200A400. All info will be presented here, so GB members will have much easier choice which and how many SMPS to buy.
Also DC sense error circuit to shutdown SMPS1200A400 in a case of DC potential failure on the First One output will be presented.
Stay tuned

Arrived.
Very fast.
Professional Packing.
Wow that is quick. I can't wait to try FO. At this stage probably with Mr Evil CM dual mono.

Really like to try it,but got no SMPS yet.
Man! that must be frustrating..... Hope you get your PS soon...
Great pictures LC, lot of fuel and horsepower in middle of box to get speaker coils on job

Hi LC,
Are you going to replace those Samwha caps from your SMPS1200A400? If you saw a big jump in SQ with Connex PSUs using different caps, I'm pretty sure you'd have the same effects here?
Thanks

Hi, LC, qestion about 0V (zero volt) and GND/Chassis and earth.
Do you still recomend to have the 0V of the 2 SMPS linked to the chassis in a single point (seems there are 3 black wires on a screw close to the AC outlet on the picture) ?
Did you design the FO PCB to force a 0V connection by the screws of the tranis to the heatsink , like in VSSA ? (seems not on the picture 🙂 )
and finally, why not having a loop breaking circuit with diodes+R+C like described in ESP Earthing (Grounding) Your Hi-Fi - Tricks and Techniques
thanks

Haha, I didn't wanted to be impatient, but I had to restrain myself to ask the same question....
So....how was your weekend with the FO?
