Looking bass reflex experts for some advice

Sorry if deviate the main subject of this thread, but was reading it and think that most of you have a lot of experience with ported enclosures, and maybe some of you can answer me a question or clarify me the matter.

I was told that in bass reflex design, the larger the design volume you can reach (internal volume of enclosure) will benefit the design because will improve performance in some ways like: 1) less harmonic distortion; 2) better transient response; 3) less port compression (port distortion at louder levels).
Is this true?

Assuming the above is true, and I can duplicate the internal volume of some existing ported enclosure by means of twicing the heigth, for example, What changes will have to make to the port to keep the original frequency tuning? maybe will need to shorten the port a half, for example?

Thanks
