The lepai amplifiers are bad sounding due to using crap parts, you will end up beeing very disappointed and deeplu regretting spending your hard earned money on this instead of saving up.

There is only one way to fix a lepai amp, design a new board from scratch taking into account the layouting recommendations by Tripath, then use only high quality well known brands on the components.
A Lepai or Lvpin only costs 2 meals at McDonald's. I rather buy this "crap" than eating junk food.

I'm listening to mine right now. Tommy Bolin just ended and now Benny Golson is "gettin' with it." Playing through a smallish pair of Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers. Definitely worth all of the $20 or so I have invested in it.
I dident even get through one song with my lp2020 before i had to turn it off, never heard a worse sounding amp than this, definately NOT worth the money!! Not even worth 5 cents in my opinion.

I am following Tekko's advice and not buying a cheep amp till I have the money to get an proper one. There is one slight problem though; no matter how much I raise the volume on the pre no sound comes out of the speakers. Oh and I did as advised and took a hammer to my cheep amp, a Muse not a Lepai. Funny though in all my years of having hifi it sounded ok better than many more expensive units and I have had some quite nice stuff. Oh well...........
I have multiple times, the board layout is something you find in cheap class ab cipamps, the component selection is the worst you can find.
The only way to fix a lepai amp as i said is to design a new board from scratch taking into account all the recommendations by tripath and using high quality well known brands for thre components.
I was looking at the app note for the TA2020 and the difference for 4 to 8 ohm is 3 caps per channel I was thinking would it be feasible to put the caps in place for 8ohms and then have a relay to switch in parallel caps to bring the value up to the ideal for 4 ohms?

i can close this thread if you persist in personal attacks, up to you gents....I do not agree I am afraid the low cost class D I have heard is superb, have not heard the Lepai though. Given that most of the time people listen through one set of speakers it is no real issue if the output filter is the for one of the other. Anyway having had experience of various High End bits from single ended tubes to big Krells, I think this is a good amp. It may not be in the class of the big big boys but then these can be bought for less than a ticket to the theatre or a peak train ticket they represent an absolute bargain. In my humble experience there is a lot of difference between what various people listen for and what will make something unlistenable for them. If people are happy playing around with a component that costs pennies then all is good, it is bringing them joy.
Well the MUSE/Indeed/SMSL is way higher build quality and uses almost all high quality brand components like Nichicon caps and such, so ofc its gonna be better.

Sorry to disappoint you but "crappy" Lepai is here to stay. I know we are not paying Cheesecake Factory price for a McDonald's cheeseburger so we aren't complaining.
