...i found in the full BOM the mouser part numbers for the resistors.....actually they are very expensive nearly 2 $/ unit...considering that i need approx. 12 units...756-RC55Y-2K21BI (positions R24, R26, R30, R32, R23, R28 ,R29, R34) and 756-RC55Y-150RBI (positions R25, R27, R31, R33) ...any cheaper ones available at mouser?
I plan to replace the C38/C39 silmic rfs 100uF 50v (not available...) with nichicon kz (same values) according to atupis advice...?
What do you think?
I also want to replace C32/C33/C20 Elna roa cerafine 10uF 50V...and the C14/C17 roa cerafine 47uF 25V...can i use silmic II rfs with the same values instead (they are available at mousers..)
thank you for your suggestions
By the way, i already got the big 63v 2200uF nichicon FW

Hi knorst,
you can use any part you want and Silmics are fine sounding caps.
But if you want what people is talking about in this thread (at least those that followed my BOM) you should follow it.
All parts I'm recommending have been compared to several others and I've selected what, IMHO, sound better in each position.
Among others I've tried also Silmics and KZ but I choose Cerafine, your choice.
I suggest you to take a look at HiFi Collective, for us Europeans is a nice UK place where to buy Cerafines and PRPs without paying customs fees... 😉

ok...tank you....
i will try to get those recommended parts....
it took me long enough to get the other parts...so i will do it your way...

ok hifi collective is a good tip....
but they happen to have no C38/C39 rfs silmic 100uF 50v, but they have different voltages or different capacities...can I swap in this case to same capacitor silmic rfs, but maybe slight different voltage/capacity...
they do have a huge amount of silmic II, but not exactly 50v 100uF 🙁
???
greetings knorst🙂

or is it possible in this case C38/C39 to use a cerafine 50v 100uF??? this would be available instead of the silmic 50v 100uF

thanks for suggestions...

Hi Dario,
hificollective do carry a range of parts but at a price and like nearly all UK and French suppliers they make a good profit on the postage.
ie. Vishay Z foils, supplied by Chalfont Electronics - check out the difference in price with Texas Components. Even if you get hit by the Duoane it's still way cheaper.
If possible I buy from USA/Taiwan or Hong Kong - in the UK and Europe it is a case of 'how much can I screw you for'.
Hakko 936 solder station - US$ 99, in Spain equivalent price @US$250 / AT33EV -US$399/£257 - UK£456 - even more in mainland Europe.
I've only had one complete scam for a power cord - supposedly old XLO stock bought from China, threatened them with bad publicity - money refunded.
From someone who used to work for the European Commission - non EU item get's taxed 19.6% at point of entry - simply no reason for huge mark-ups, mostly way over 100%. Some EU countries will try to charge TVA on top, completely illegal.
Until European importers and resellers stop being so greedy for doing nothing, if possible I buy elsewhere.
Sellers from Hong Kong/Taiwan and most from the USA charge you what it costs them - they make their profit on the goods.
Digikey/Canada a pot. - price for delivery anywhere in Canada (it's a very, very big country) @ $8. Digikey/France same pot for delivery in France @ €18 - how much can I screw you for.

Me too!
Have not had this fun, since building Heathkits in the early 1960's.

It depends on how much items you must buy...
Italian customs charge 5€ fixed fee + VAT + 5% import duties...
If I have to buy a couple of Amtrans and a couple of Cerafines HiFi collective is competitive, If I have to buy a lot of goods maybe Parts Connexion is cheaper.
Another thing to consider, Italian custom take 2-3 weeks for clearance, added to 1 week for shipping it takes quite a month for parcels to arrive...
Hopefully in France is different...
well for me it was not to expensive without import fees from germany and 5 euro shipping...
it was the cheapest option among others...

Absolutely, import duties are due only when goods arrive from outside EU (like USA for instance).
Dario,
my Dutch mate lme that the Dutch Duaone charge something like €40 just to open and examine the contents - outrageous.
I'd like to know how the Italian Duaone charge what they do. As I said this Belgian used to work for the European Commission in Bruxelles and as he runs a computer shop and often buys from outside the EU he can easily check with old friends who still work there exactly what can legally be charged at point of entry.
As always, in reality the EU is a free-for-all and countries do what the hell they like. IBAN transfers are supposed to be free, it costs the banks nothing to administer the system as everything is done electronically. The only countries that obey the rules AFAIK are the Netherlands and Germany, that's why on Ebay.de many sellers specify bank transfers (IBAN) only and avoid Paypal completely.
A golden tip - if you know anyone who is from Macedonia and can get goods delivered there, Macedonia has a 'special' deal with the EU and no import duties are charged on anything coming from there.

I do agree.
What I know is what I wrote, but I don't run a business. I don't know if it makes a difference.
In Romania (EU country) i never paid any extra tax like VAT or customs tax for what i've bought from ebay even if the goods are coming from Asia or Europe but never exceeded goods whorth 100EU or US$.
The same for orders from PCX lower than 100US$
I friend of mine bought a complete tube power amplifier from HK (500US$) and asked the seller to write to the parcel "Happy birtday" and paid zero taxes 🙂

Hey, has anyone messed around with the ak4399 dac kit on ebay?
DAC Decoder AK4399 WM8805 Coaxial Optical Input Assembled Board DAC9 by Weiliang | eBay

I built the DAC5 version and had a nightmare with garbage parts from a vendor who went out of business. Once I got it straightened out it sounded very good. To my ear it's a warmer sound but less detail than the Mini2496. There are several related threads on the forum. Search for "weiliang".
Dario,
this is my last input on the question of European costs - the products I am talking about are not produced in Europe - they are simply goods in and goods out with massive mark-ups.
As I have mentioned - rip-off postage costs ie. I bought a pair of in ear phones from a seller in the UK, price £12.99 - postage in the UK - zero but posted to France - £10.99. They were posted on by family, cost - £3.50. The seller is making far more on rip-off postage costs than they do on the product.

USB CM6631A multi input usage
Hi just a question for someone about the USB CM6631A Chip pins 39 Ground and 40 xspdifi_0 could I wire this for rca SPDIF in? as well as usb input, it would be good at the times you wanted to connect non-usb devices.

Hello, just received the kit. I took it as I red many pages (not the 254 🙂!! here. Will start to built it will apply some changes from the BOM after.
Looking at my kit, it is a ak4396, but the R/C kit contains same values as the 4393. In another words the resistor in output of the 4393 are 1k and not 2.4K... Should I update it ? What would be the result for the sound ?
Thks/alain

Hello everyone. I'm very interested in this kit and I've also seen the kit with case and transformer on ebay.
I'm interested in one thing. Does anyone have this kit and also the Zero DAC? Which one do you think will sound best after modifying them ? I don't like the fact that the Zero has a headamp, no use for me and I pay extra for it. Else, I've read only good things about the Zero.
