Am I seeing that correctly, that the driver is mounted off center so there will be 6 different length horns? If so you certainly have all the bases covered with tuning frequency. 😉
The foam joint tape - is that your spiral template? hehe, what, are you only building two of these?
As far as the glue drying, I would first install a 3/8" wide strip of paper to the cardboard edge with PVA glue, let it dry and then you will have a wider surface to put your glue on for the baffle piece.

Cal,
What size inductor are you using on the 27 inchers?
It was 5.0mH IIRC. I started smaller and just kept upping it till I didn't notice so much overlap with the small driver.
Looks nice Cal. You may want to give the tractrix front horn some consideration. I don't have it mounted yet but holding it in place you can hear a big difference.
No doubt there's a difference, probably a really noticeable one. With me the jury is still out on the FLH's even though I am an owner. 🙂
Superbowl time soon. See y'all tomorrow.

Hi there, gentelemen. I've been following this thread very closely. AKA lurking for some time.
I have all the material to build a pair of 24" cornu's. I saw xrk971 mention using the TangBand W4-1320SIF and was wondering if it would be a good candidate. If so, what would the height of the spirals? 4.5"? This is my first go and hot glue box building but am excited to try it out. Thanks for all your help and insight. Very impressed with all the knowledge on this forum

Thanks a million xrk971! I appreciate it. I' m going to get all the internals cut tomorrow night and employ the better half's hands this weekend to get them glued up. Weather is supposed to be crappy so it will be a great inside job.
I will get some pictures up when I get them stuck together.
Thanks again

Thanks a million xrk971! I appreciate the information. I'm going to get the 4.5 inch strips cut tomorrow night. I have employed the better half's hands to help this weekend. The weather is going to be cold and snowy so I'm really liking the fact I don't have to go out to the garage for this project.
I'll get some pictures up of the finished product.

The saga continues...
So good to see the new persons on board. Here's what happened between work and when we have to go out (15 minutes from now)
JVC drivers on the Suprabaffles. Might want to remove a little insulation as the bass is a little light. [no **** Cal, they're 3" drivers]. Will have more time later but this is a busy week so I will experiment when I can.
Pics are no flash then flash.

I wanted to add that, ideally, you should make a 27.5 in Cornu for the W4-1320SIF as it has a nice Fs of around 70 Hz, which is more suited for the longer channels afforded by the full-size design. If you do not need the deeper bass extension, the 24 in still works. The 4.5 in channel depth is good still.
Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering if bigger would be better but when I went to Menards they had 24"x24"x1/4" boards on sale for 3.99 a piece so that swayed my decision. Plus being my first foray into this style of speaker box I wanted to keep it simple as possible.
Just bought a box of blades for my sheetrock knife. Going to cut the strips tonight after work!

Cutting the Strips
Ryani - You might also want to pick up a special kind of knife that is set up to make just a shallow cut in the surface. I have a Scotch-brand (about $5). When you slit crosswise at narrow intervals you can break the foam coreboard over the ruler of a t-square easily. This will allow you to do the bending so you get an accurate curve.

Most box cutters have that feature, and yes do a 'rounding' of the slit foam before trying to form it with the glue.
Thanks, my wife actually prefers them in the other direction. There's just no pleasing some people. 😉I like those supra baffles!
Actually she likes the fact that I'm inside while doing these. So she can keep an eye on me as they like to do.

That's a great deal on quarter inch ply and probably would sway me too. The problem with the 27.6 in size is that there is a lot of waste as you can only make 3 sheets with a 4x8 foot panel. It requires you to buy two sheets. On the other hand, if I were to pursue a realistic copy of the commercial Cornu with two layers it works out to two sheets of 4x8 ft ply for two speaker as there are 3 layers ea.

What do you mean the other direction (vertical)?
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Full Range
- Ever think of building a Cornu Spiral horn? Now you can!
