I've had plenty of experience with elsevier. Those people are trying to bankrupt their own company for years now, there is no other explanation. It is really hard for me to understand why they're still in business and why, especially academics, have them so high in their eyes

Just installed Kindle for PC on my laptop and am thinking about purchasing the Kindle version which is available..

I am not sure what Amazon is selling for the Kindle. When you click on the purchase of the Kindle edition the picture shown is the third edition.

I've had plenty of experience with elsevier.

By brother is a medical researcher with dozens of books published, many by Elsevier. He hasn't had too many problems, but hasn't published recently. Elsevier targets technical and speciallized audiences mainly in academia where thay have a captive market and can charge high prices for textbooks. They also maintain a closed market publishing system for the medical field similar to the IEEE publications for the enginering world. IEEE will let non members purchase publications for big $$$ but Elsevier does not. I got my brother to download the current research on Melanoma during my mother in laws fight with the disease.

I have the first and third editions and they are substantially different.

I have the second and third editions. There are many similarities, but enough differences to warrant purchase. I would buy the third if you don't have it, but I have it, and still want the fourth.

Yesterday I Googled the ISBN and found that BUY.COM claims to have it in stock for $65. Several other sellers are asking over $100. I ordered one, but don't expect much other than a cancellation notice. About 30 seconds after placing the order I got an email from Buy.com reminding me that 20% of all electronics fail and I needed to buy an extended warantee for my new purchase. I wonder if it covers the pages falling out. My third edition started coming apart before I finished reading it.

Kevin, I hear you on the Kindle edition. I'm just not sure that I want to reward Elsevier for this mess with two book sales. Some day I will definitely buy the paper edition, if only because it is easier and safer to have around when soldering. Jotting down notes on a book also requires just one hand instead of the two that I use for typing.

I might think differently about this, if there was a significant discount in place for buying both. That would make sense at least to me since the intellectual property is the same for both editions.

Amazon is now asking if you would like to e-mail when it in stock . Sad sad day for the uk publishing . If you go to google search it preview the first 170 pages . I love his statment that computer are infesting the average home .

As demand grows and I have (apparently) the only copy in North America.......Hmm, I have one in Australia...

I now have one in my pocket.......and in my computer......and in my wife's Kindle.

I cancelled the Buy.com order since they said it was in stock and then put me on back order. I got the Kindle edition since I can read it during boring meetings at work......No I didn't say that.

I installed the Kindle for PC app in my Vista box and it seems to work OK. It might be on my extra XP box at work too, but if it is, I don't know how it got there since I don't have an extra computer under my desk.

The Android app was quite schizo on my 2 year old Samsung Galaxy S, requiring 4 reinstallations and 2 brain dump reboots (take the battery off) due to lockups. I deleted a bunch of apps that I didn't use, or that didn't work and it seems pretty stable now.

I have only had the book for an hour, but it seems to be well worth having. There is plenty of new material especially on component choice and testing. The Crystal Palace and the 6528 SE amp remain and I can't tell on my tiny phone screen if they have been updated or not. There is a new amp with mosfet drivers but I have to use the big screen to see the schematic.

I will go through the entire book in the next few months.......maybe we will have real paper copies by then........or maybe we wont.
