its obvious there is a lot of stress in the above message that isnt al directed at you Ed, but people dropping out at the last minute of GB's (and in your case without even an explanation or apology) is a pet peeve of mine, because it just leaves the organiser putting in their time.... with it and either has to be covered out of pocket (not going to happen), recaclulated, or disbanded.

I mentioned in the PM but forgot to reinforce it, that if i can get EMS shipping (still havent gotten back to me) the return leg for those in the keratherm only group will have their return shipping covered, so i'll refund 3.3usd. so far only Randytsuch from that group has paid, leaving Ed out altogether and enantra and maravedis unpaid. so I may have to either refund the keratherm entirely and you guys can sort it out for yourselves, or i'll see if the asian guy will sell a smaller amount, I asked him this before however.

i'm fine with any outcome except for wasted time

I'll try to explain.

I thought Keratherm was an option.

I could have looked into the value of Keratherm before indicating an interest in it. I may have stayed away from it at that point.

I don't have an alternate source for it, nor intend to look for one. With the heat load from these devices I question whether I will need the efficiency in heat transfer that Keratherm provides. I plan to use something else; probably polymide film tape.

I espoused a "brown shoe" approach to this build from the start. I am sorry that may have contributed to a misunderstanding.

Hey Ed, sorry for slow answer, yeah look it was optional, but i think its reasonable to expect people to opt out a bit earlier than after i've already accepted payments from a few people, as the estimate process was and is tied directly to the number of people involved and the cost of getting whatever needs to come to me, to come to me. If you had a price in mind then as you say it would be better to check whether it was likely to be the case, I guess I just assumed given its prevalence here that you were aware of the standard pricing

its not cheap stuff, but the price offered is competitive at the very least and includes a value added service not available unless you do it yourself, or in large quantities direct from the distributor (custom diecut) I could have given a more accurate estimate I suppose; earlier, but right up till the last moment and even now i've been working to make it cheaper WRT shipping and also seeing if I could get a partial quantity, the reps havent been exactly useful in their communications I have to say; but it came to a point where we had to bite the bullet with the time, info and options available to me.

it wasnt my intention to start selling the stuff or buy a large amount upfront. I considered it, but its just not something i've got time for at the moment and this was stated clearly in my first post, this has already taken up much more time than I was planning on, thus calling for regional volunteers etc, but for whatever reason it has pretty much all come down to me with some help from Bill for the TX relay and a bit of backup from hochopeper, so I think its reasonable to expect that its made as little trouble as possible.

anyway we'll work it out, maybe hochopepper and I will go halves in the extra keratherm slot or something

@ everyone: for full disclosure, as a last minute addition I got 2 extra potted center 240v->7v/20VA transformers from Richard and it may or may not be reflected on the paperwork that ships, as i got them on account @39ea. i'll cover the extra $3 for the added shipping to Bill and it wont increase the cost of the flatrate EMS package as we are still well under the 20lb limit. this was not an incentive kickback on the side, I paid full price, i'm just not sure if it'll be on the same invoice that ships so wanted to inform the group. so actually disclosure maybe isnt the best term, but probably some have already received an update so I wont change it now in an edit lol

ermm thats pretty optimistic dont you think? I got your PM as well with the confused face, i'm confused... that you could think its shipped.... ? not only was shipping this soon never going to happen with the processes/shipping, packing etc involved, but you have not paid Mark for the heatsink (nobody has afaik?) and you have not paid for shipping to you. I dont know what that shipping cost will be till I have everything in hand.

i'm expecting the digikey order here today, tracking says its out for delivery. I had to transfer the funds to my account twice as I had a phantom amount in my account from a duplicate transaction that vaporised under closer inspection, dont know if you guys get that sort of thing over there. so I had to top up my visa debit from paypal again (my business is almost 100% paypal) with a second payment and it ended up shipping tuesday/wednesday. i'll post an update tonight as planned, i'm off to bed, someone will be here to accept the package

one of you should email or PM HYPERTUNE for an update, the heatsink has nothing to do with me other than they'll be shipped to me so you guys save on shipping, that is the extent of my involvement.

Bill has the sumR apparently, so those in the US should contact him about regional shipping if he hasnt contacted you already

regal, it looks like your late addition to the keratherm GB didn't make it onto the front page list. Perhaps because of this qusp missed PMing you when the requests went out for that? My understanding is that there is plenty of keratherm to go around, qusp should be able to confirm that for you. If there isn't I know Ed bowed out and Bill and I have taken a half share of that, I have no *need* for it so you can probably step in and take over what was originally Ed's share. In that case there is certainly enough for you! If qusp has enough to cover you I'll still get my extra bit though just because its nice to have a bit spare 🙂

In theory, the lists in post 1 show what you've nominated interest in and orders are in progress for most of those already. As is noted there HYPERTUNE is organising and machining the heatsinks, the plan is that these will then get posted as a group to qusp and collated with the other components you have ordered then shipped to everyone from there.

An update on the heatsink process is potentially the one to watch for to get an idea of time-frames from here on.

I don't think you have missed out, just that you were accidentally missed off the list so haven't got a payment request yet.

Further news on progress will come from qusp obviously, I'm just filling in details that I know to (hopefully) save him some time where I can.

ok so i've had a very full day, but lets just say me updating you guys isnt going to hold things up.

hochopeper is correct regal, I simply didnt catch that post for some reason, you were always on the heatsink list, I felt sure I had the updated keratherm list but obviously I missed that, sorry. you havent missed anything and yes we'll work out some keratherm for you, there'll be enough.

so i'll add to this update when I get up, but first some good news and some bad news.

the good news is the passives arrived today with most everything we need

the bad news is, check the last 2 pics, digikey screwed up, they sent me a roll of 0603 size 27ohm resistors in place of what should be a roll of 0805 size 1k resistors. it was labelled correctly as you can see, as I ordered the right part #, but the warehouse (robot I assume) screwed up. I spent yet another couple of hours arranging the replacement. I emailed these pics as soon as I saw it and it was unopened and untouched, but it took till 4am 11hrs later, to get it organised.

just to confuse things the Asian Keratherm rep Got back to me to say he was still waiting on a shipping quote as it has to be drop-shipped from where its cut, while the US did not, I just followed up with him just now, but I didnt get around to calling him, i'll do it today. I can get it shipped flat in cut/folded A3 sheets though rather than a roll, we'll see who works out the best, at this stage though i'll be happy with whoever gives me a final amount first, because i'm over wasting time on it.

indeed yes as far as the heatsinks, my only involvement is receiving them, packing them with everyone's orders and sending them on, I may possibly if its easier collect payment and then pass it on in bulk to Mark, but probably best for you guys to pay him directly, I dont know, but yes you need to hear from him about estimates, i'm not privy

just to remind everyone, this is not a business, I have a business of my own that I have to run and it has been somewhat neglected to get this done. people have in general been quite patient, but be assured you guys will be the first to know, just as today I got these bits of info, the package and the sumR pics, I have posted them and details.

I will within reason keep everyone in the loop as far as things that are in my control, please do not email me after the weekend wondering if the kits are ready, you will know when the kits are ready; I will also not be making many individual trips to the post office, I will be putting them together as time and opportunity allows and once the components are all here. i'll start with logistics and basic planning for getting the passives together and just add the replacement part when its here

Transformers

Guys,
I shipped the transformers out today, Ben and Benjamin I sent you a PM with the shipping info. It took me an extra day because I wanted to pack a little better than SUM R, he really needs to do a better job of packing they arrived fine but they use scrap material laying about.

Bill
