I recently got a CD-63SE, and it is emitting a fairly loud whirring/hissing from the CD drive during playback. I am sitting close to it (it is under my PC monitor) but even considering that it is quite loud, as I can hear it over the sound from my speakers during playback. Any simple steps to reduce drive noise on this?

Hi Alan,
The CD52 uses a CDM4 swing-arm mech. It's going to be very hard to get new for a decent price. Your best bet is to get a cheap CD32, CD42 or CD52 on the second-hand market somewhere. Or a CD72, it also uses the same mechanism.
Here's a used one.

I've swapped from Arcam Alpha to CD52 just to test, it's quite easy to swap them. I think there are still lots of good-working players with this mech range and laser.
Anyone have a laser for a cd52 for sale as mine has given up?
many thanks Alan🙁
Are you sure it's the laser itself that has gone and not a cap, there's an axial 33 or 47 mfd cap which is often the real culprit. There's a few threads on the forum about locating it.
regards
pete
I wonder if that's what my Alpha's unhappy about! I tried another laser and it made no odds. Thanks Pete!
