TPA - USB Transport

Jriver Media Center supports a couple of modes that pass the media file to the interface bit transparent with automatic switching of the sample rate.

ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WASAPI, and WASAPI event mode

Direct Sound and Wave Out playback modes will be subject to the Windows sample rate conversion and only play at the sample rate preselected for the specific device in the Sound control panel.

Cheers

Ok well I was unaware this was possible.I am using foobar currently. I am a PC guy. so know of any PC based software that Will allow exclusive mode??

Any rough idea of a price point for the TPA USB device? are we talking $100 or less, $200-300 or $300 or more??
What is the brand/model of your sound card? What is your output option in foobar, ASIO, Kernel streaming or Direct streaming?

There are several drivers that will work. That's the cool thing about standards. 🙂

USB audio 2.0 is natively supported by Apple OS X version 10.6.3 and above.

Support for Windows is provided via XMOS partners, Thesycon, CEntrance and Polytec. The drivers are configurable and provide support for WDM/Direct X and ASIO 2.1.

So Windows users should buy or download a driver, or will you license one of them to bundle with the module? Thesycon indeed wouldn't make it cheap.

It completely asynchronous. So the source really does not matter a wit. Well I suppose someone could have a truly horrid PC. 🙂

I prefer using the Mac, but that's only personal preference.

Well, in theory it should make no difference. In theory, nothing should affect the asynchronous data. All asynchronous interfaces should sound identical. However, people have reported hearing differences between Mac and Windows OS as well as cables and everything else.

What difference they feel or hear?

Most people tend on exagerating or think that there's a sound difference when there's none... Albeit, not always though...

I have a couple audiophile friends that came to my place the other day to listen to my new speaker interconnects (They put in big money in interconnects). I asked them which of my two pairs of cables sounded better... They were the same exact cables and length, except one was nicely sleeved for the experiment. I fired the music, they listened and started to tell me the the sleeved version sounded better... More air, deeper soundstage, bla bla bla! You get the point... It just looked prettier so it must have been better I guess... 😉

So to me, asynchronous should not make a difference and PC or MAC either...

This is my take

Is there a difference between asynchronous usb i2s transfer and direct wire transfer from other i2s receiver (like dac ic)?

The connection between the USB host and the device is not I²S. I²S "is an electrical serial
bus interface standard used for connecting digital audio devices together" (see Wikipedia
on I²S
). I²S is introduced in 1986.

Transmission over USB follows the USB Audio Class 2 standard (see here) which now
operates on a high speed USB bus, allowing very high resolution (e.g. >192kHz). This
standard has been only recently used (~5 yrs or so).

I have been playing with an xmos development board.

The Theyscon drivers available from them inserts a beep every 30 min. I can't find a free windows driver that doesn't.

Also, I have found that although OSX works fine, my preferred player, pure music on the Mac does not work with the xmos board.

Have you experienced any of this Russ? If so, are there simple solutions, or should I sell my board and buy yours?

That beep there because that is not the licensed windows driver. 🙂 It is the demo driver.

I have not had issues with any player OSX. But I have not used Pure music.

You may well need to update you XMOS firmware.
