Then please enlighten us with the correct procedure.
It's not a secret, these tests are performed in research acoustic labs across the world. Search the site under my name for 'Nortel'. Blankets and audience prompts are conspicuously absent.
I have asked honest questions. You have made it clear that DBTs are not good at all so I would like to know what you suggest instead of them.
To reply telling me that its beyond the grasp of normal basement hobbiests is definitely classic strawman tatics.
So far real experts with real published data and foundations. You refuse to acknowledge even what the National Research Council of Canada as done (so un-Canadian of you 😉 ) and you simply disagree with what Harman listening labs does ( I have you been there?).
Do you have any publishings at all? You would even care to expose why have such huge bias. I get the feeling you sell audio products hence your aggressive tendencies to defend subjectivity.
RDF has been at this a lot longer than you (2004?); the same evasive or absent responses, arguing for the sake of scoring debating points and I do not recall a single simple response with evidence or positive contribution.
His replies are on my mental ignore list. Recommended.

multi-factor testing
A clever researcher could (and should) include treatment combinations that would expose these responses...
but then, the believers would most likely discount any null response results as due to trickery, as they have with DBT protocols...
sigh... the masses
Im not so sure about that
We know fore a fact that a blind person may devellop even further sharpening of other senses
But that takes some time, maybe a lot
If you blind a person who is used to rely on his sight, he gets very confused, looses concentration, and thus results in an immediate loss of other senses
Our senses are closely connected
Try the common one, hold your nose, and how does the food taste then
Well, you know how that one works
All Im saying is, it may not be that simple at all
Our senses are not just something you can turn off, without some kind of sideeffects
IF detecting these small differences we are talking about her actually takes a lot of brain work and concentraion, and maybe even being something we are not all able to, then its not unlikely that those differences will be harder to detect under pressure, or if efforts are being done to "blind" and "confuse" the listener
Thats why I claimed that if you remove the "subjectivity" and "emotion" from listening, there wont be much left to hear, other than non involving noise
Something your brain wont like too much, and it slows down into "ignoring mode", and gets less sharp, less focused
Which leaves the test person half asleep and bored
Im sure someone will feel tired and less engaged

ah, he has a history.
Guys like him intrigue me. It does move the day a long at a lightening pace so its all not that bad 😉
Level matching interconnects and power cords? Again, it was a random quick reference, the first I found. I'm at work. The same Head-Fi poster apparently believes coat hangers can be soldered so I'll take his analysis as well with a grain of salt.
If a cable has enough resistance to reduce the output then that would be a grossly under-engineered cable. I've said before that it shouldn't be impossible to build a cable poor enough that it could be differentiated. Seems like the 1.99 euro cable was possibly that. They don't list electronic properties or enough details overall to let you really know much of anything. I've mentioned that I believe I have built a bad enough cable to be audible even though a friend couldn't hear it. I think I can with headphones. Of the 2 pricier interconnects they used, they couldn't be differentiated even though their price difference was quite large--7.99 euro vs. 500 euro.
Rdf, there's no solder made that could solder a coat hanger? Just curious.

A researcher/scientist would do that, yes
But that is far beyond what we can do
But I do find it funny that some of you keep posting that way
You know, to make an effort to try and figure out what all this is about is very very different from just proving someone else wrong, just to bang their heads with it
And yes, even if you prove that too little people hear a difference in a DBT, or maybe even noone, that doesnt actually mean that there is no difference
But somehow I feel, and "believe", we wont even care, either way
Maybe look at it in another angle
Someone comes along and says, I hear this and that
And the other person says, I hear nothing, you must be wrong
In the streets the first person would get his head smashed in
And the second person would say, now he doesnt hear anything
Just a different perspective
Then why insist that subjective, non-LCR wire "sound" is physically real, not just imagined?A researcher/scientist would do that, yes
But that is far beyond what we can do
No one is trying to prove you wrong. You are trying to prove you are right, without a shred of physical evidence, because you want your subjective experience to be objectively, physically real, not just imagined. Why?But I do find it funny that some of you keep posting that way

Why obscure every single bit of information you pretend to share? What is "the site under my name"? Office Spaces for Lease - Chicago - West Loop Area ? Nice main entrance but no "Nortel".

I never claimed to be right, or insisted on anything
I simply described another possibility, and a different perspective, thats all
Maybe take a look at the rate of posting
Hold it up against the psysical relation between quotes, and actual posts
Why do I cling to my subjective "reality"
Because it simply sounds better, thats why 🙂
And who knows if it isnt real
What I hear is real to me 😀
What you hear may be different, and none of my concern, sorry
You are trying to prove you are right, without a shred of physical evidence, because you want your subjective experience to be objectively, physically real, not just imagined. Why?
Because they feel that they are right. That's the beauty (?) of belief.

Maybe so, yes
But then its funny to see who the "preachers" are right here
I would say, that "believer thing" points more in your direction
Yes, I claim the right to hear what I hear 🙂
You claim the right to tell me what I hear 😡
Just another thought
If our mind and brain really could do what you say, why have I been searching fore good sound all my life, when I could just have done the" imagine and "believe" thing
Hey, why did you need a Geddes speaker, when you could just have imagined it
Man, some of you guys are really far out, sorry

But if all you hear are some strange pling plong noises, then I feel sorry about you, really
Do your own homework and, to be embarrassingly obvious, this site.
I try to do my "homework". That's why I ask for information. So would you please be so kind to post a link? THAT would be really helpful. It should take you only seconds to find it. I would have to read through thousands of posts which would take me hours or days.
Don't think so, I've tried to solder steel for chassis purposes many times. Even uncoated passive device leads (defective Solens) wouldn't hold solder, so I find it very, very suspect. It's the least of problems with that particular account. For fun and games read it substituting statistically significant positive results and see how it rings for you. Again, many of these tests are just bad.Rdf, there's no solder made that could solder a coat hanger? Just curious.

Somewhat off topic: interesting you mention headphones. I recently listened to music over cheap speakers that was previously heard almost exclusively over headphones (Panny CD player > Rotel integrated > AKG 701s) and was struck by details that had escaped my notice before. Toole notes room reflections provide the ear multiple opportunities to decode information and can in fact enhance intelligibility. Headphones always seemed the intuitive best means for these tests. Maybe not.

You're under a false impression. I really believe (!) that you cable guys perceive something. But that perception doesn't have its origin in the physical world (some call it reality).

We already had the discussion about the conscious and unconscious mind, right? You can't control your unconscious mind but maybe audiophilia can 🙂

Oh, don't I know. When I read that I was stunned. All good points rdf. That's what I find so interesting about my belief.😀 Its wrong.
Oh, I tried to solder my coat hanger but it just melted.
Thanks rdf,
Dan

...
No one is telling you what you heard, everyone is posting that you should control your listening tests if you really want to know the truth.
Does anyone not believe controls are needed?

Another condenscending remark but I will bite considering I have no need for what you listen too, your smallish room or anything you own (we all have choices dont we 😉 )......
Actually we go and enjoy music all the time but when it comes to discussion on an audio forum we do not use that subjective experience as objective data in discussions. I would suggest leaving the music behind and only talking about real data because subjective opinion isnt really worth more then yak spit.
I keep asking....
If audio science isnt someone's cup of tea and just listening then why post on a forum like this period?

That is so true! I have a deaf friend that can see through ladies blouses.😀
say what?
Out of your realm of knowledge, I'm afraid...
Do think so. It's rather trivial, really. Use the right flux, understand the metallurgy, do your homework... lots of references all over the 'net.
Incolloy 718, now that's a bit more difficult... but it can be done. Heck I've even soldered 😉 to scorpions, given the right pre-treatment...😀
