i don't know? if pcm corresponds with coaxial then no, it only has a optical toslink audio out.Hi mp9,
If your TV provides PCM output, it is capatible with this dac. Most of the time, the digital audio output of the HDTV are two type of format: PCM and BITSTREAM. The phycial interface are coaxial and optical.

The USER MANUL or Istruction shows ^_^

Your HDTV provides PCM output, more than 90% percent chance 🙂
in theory,COAXIAL is better than the OPTICAL, for the reason that OPTICAL must using electrical to light and light to electrical conversion, there must be signal losses in such a conversion, right? 🙂
no; digital is 1 or 0; as long as it get there by light or a dirty as hell signal where the wave can be interpreted as a yes or nothing

But in Audio Precision testment, the jitter can be measure >_<
bump for deal

...am i the 1st who received the board ? 😎
MUST find right transformer(s) and right cable(s) ASAP

Hey it works! 😛
only coaxial for now,
didn't want a 3mt. toslink cable at supermarket..
and i also lack on the 7v ac supply..
which can be a temporary safe dc substitute? say 8Vdc ?
thanx

8V DC is OK, for there is a LM7805 on the board
Do connect the +8V to the postive pole of the main capacitor, and 0V to negtive
ok thanks, saying the truth i used the same AC input, so my 8Vdc will (unusefully) flow into the diode bridge, so no need for me to identify negative or positive input..tested in this way until 7.3Vdc, everything seemed well working, i've to study 7805 and it's minimum voltage dropout.. 🙂8V DC is OK, for there is a LM7805 on the board

Hi madqwerty, sorry I can't provide the completed schmetic >_<

Hehe, i've just received the DAC!
So far it looks good, quality parts on a nice board!
TDA's decoupling caps are subjected to change to red WIMAs, maybe bypass caps on output ELNAs, bypass caps on opamps (right on the chips)...
The PSU would be +/-15VAC +9VAC 200VA monster (that's what i have). Maybe additional external rectifier/regs to make dual-stage regulation with decoupling CRC filter in between regs (to prevent the onboard diode noise too).
I don't like the SAA7220 filter, but that's the only filter that is relatively cheap...
I'll try the NOS OS concept, by feeding the TDA1541 with external 174kHz I2S from soundcard with foobar's SSRC resampler, so maybe the SAA7220 will be turned off.
Thanks! Your's motor-driven volume control is nice too!

please, let me say (by updating this thread)I'll ...
whatever you may try or modify with this board !
would be much interesting for me
thanks in advance 🙂
ok, Toslink also working 🙂
what's not working is that a suitable transformer will cost me the same as the board.. 🙁
hope you'll do better..

madqwerty,
You can buy a pair of transformers from antek.com or eBay Store - Antek inc: Transformers, Enclosures, Power Supply
Maybe it's possible to fit two small toroids in a USPS Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box, that costs only $13. The cost of transformers is 2x $10-13, + shipping = ~$33-40.
Also i would suggest these nice yet cheap enclosures:
eBay Store – wonderco buy79: Search results for matel.
I HAVE to buy one of those.

yeah, good links, but i've to consider i'm on the wrong side of Atlantic Ocean 😀 so (maybe) custom duties, and unknown delivery times..
and i looked for a single transformer (to minimize space requirements)
so i asked for a manually wound transformer (on my specifications) to a well known italian shop,
for 47€ shipped they will make me a transformer with these charateristics:
Primary : 230 Vac
Secondary 1 : 15-0-15 Vac 0,5A
Secondary 2 : 0-7 Vac 1A
Shield (to be connected to Earth) between primary and secondaries..
hope it will be well working.. 🙂

Please send me a PM, I maybe have transformers that are suitable for your DAC. They will be cheaper than 47 Euro !
i'm sorry, but i've already ordered and payed for my custom transformer.. 🙁
can you provide more details? could be useful for other buyers oh this DAC, or for other DAC's.. 🙂

bbp, How many layers is the PCB? I can only see 2 layers, is that correct?
yeah, 2 layers 🙂
