cartman,

I've owned that amplifier. Now I use Pass Labs and there is no math. The NAD has punch and is neutral, but that's it. It has poor extension (top and botom); midband is not liquid and the sound is only 2D. It's not an audiophile product.
Don't lose your time with it - chose one of the Pass DIY amplifiers, according to your load/room needs. They're in an entirely different (better) class.

Regards
Alves

Kind of late reply, but anyway.

NAD S200 is a factory tweaked/modified NAD 218 THX.
They share the same schematics.

The biggest difference between these two amps is the chassis with terminals.
Other changes are better PCB (two sided, same layout, but the wire straps are replaced with pcb tracks), Metalfilm resistors instead of the ordinary and some better capacitors here and there.

The only S-amp that`s someting special is the S300 (based on a Gryphon amp) but thats another story;-))

Anyone have Schematic for NAD S300 Integrated Amp?

Does anyone have a Schematic for the incredible NAD S300 Integrated Amp?

As some you are aware I bought this off Fleabay and it came without a left channel power amp circuit board and output devices. Am I excited or what???? about this personal disaster.

See the hassle you would have saved if you had only bought mine? I don't have schematics, but I know your new board is on the way. It is amazing how small the word is. I am selling my S300 off in favor of my ugly but functional Pass F4. Enjoy that amp.

It's a small small world indeed!!!

Hello Dave:

It is a small world and in the long run I wish I did buy your Amp with that beautiful S70 Remote!!!!

But as you we're aware I committed to this because of price and location of seller (2 hours away by car), and some things seem so simple but are so complex!!!

If your buyer does not want that beautiful remote you can sell it to me for $100!!!!!

Thanks,

I will let you know if that is what happens. The other guy who is interested is obsessing about the scratches. He has been holding out trying to get a cost for a new faceplate. I honestly don't think you can get one. It has been out of production for a couple of years now, and that is not the kind of thing that you make extras of if you don't have to. Oh well, I will just have to run my add for another month and this time take money of the first offer instead of holding out for that extra $50.

Hi, I'm new here, I'm just wondering what you think about the mods done to my newly purchased NAD silverline S200, and if they are any good?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

What's modified as I can see:

The large caps, say PEH 169 + a number of different things I'm unable to read due to the text facing forwards hidden between them and the transformer..

All the wiring appear to have been changed as well.

It seems powerful enough, making the walls move when I play Yello with Junior B... hehe :)

I'll be ordering a set of CerwinVega CS215 speakers, the Dali concept 6 I've got now, plays beautifully on this amp, but their rated power input of 30-150w may be to little in the long run ?

What the heck happened to that amp? Wow. I love the structural string. I would start by figuring out a way to mount those caps so that they are rigid. I don't know about the wiring change, but it was certainly done with good intent. About future mods, I would start by cleaning up what has been done and then take stock from there.

I would say who cares what the power handling of your speakers is. Are you interested in tinitis? I have some I could share with you. Speakers that are less efficient, but can "handle" more power are not necessarily an improvement. I think if you move from your Dali's to a pair of Cerwin Vegas that you will be sorely disappointed in the long run. The vegas are fun for Metallica and AC/DC, but if your musical pallet is broader, I don't think you will be happy.

Of course all things are open to differing opinions.

I like all sorts of music... So I've also been thinking of getting a set of Dali 909's, but they are hard to come by nowadays..

Perhaps a set of Dali concept 10's ?

Got a Suit 0.8 center now, but the 2.8, floor standing equivalent is out of production, those would be sweet...

Main reason for thinking of the CerwinVega 215's where the low price...

Btw, my Dalis are the cheapest floor standing model they make, I know, it's not the power rating of the speaker that matters, it's just that I like it moderately loud, and then, power rating comes into play...

From my car audio experience, I've noticed that low power rated woofers, even really expensive ones, tend to disintegrate when connected to large amps, weird stuff happens, like the sound suddenly, with no warning going dead, because the voice coil disconnects from the membrane, or because the membrane itself comes loose from the woofer...

Heat, lots of it, no distortion, no warning, just smoke... when the glue that holds the voice coil together, first melt, then catch fire...

I also know it's a lot easier to blow a speaker with an amp that's to small..

I'm not to smart, give me some leniency...

No judgment intended in my post. It takes all kinds. What I like you may not. Anyway, I lived with one of those amps bone stock for 6 years. It was a great piece and a good value for the money. I built a gainclone and found the performance of the chip to be slightly better than the NAD. Lacking the huge power reserve, but more detail and a tad more information. The difference was minute to my ears. But I sold mine to go 100% DIY. Never looked back.

I just love the "weight" of the bass now, its really heavy, goes deeper than the two active 8" woofers I have...

Just a tad more info, I've upgraded the speakerwires inside my Consept 6 to

"DALI RED WAVE

2 x 3 mm2 oxygen-free copper conductors consisting of 37 individual 0.32 mm strands with polyethyleneinsulation for optimum electrical characteristics.
Advanced twisted pattern for mechanical stability and immunity to resonance at high current and modulation at hight acustic output.

Developed by and custom-made for DALI loudspeakers."

I use the same wires between my amp and the speakers, with banana plugs that are soldered onto the wires..

It actually made quite a difference in the fullness of the bass..

Of course, I also use spikes on them.
