Posted 28th October 2010 at 11:10 AM by meridianqq

I have concluded that I need to replace the cdm12.4 in my meridian 506. Has anyone got picture or instructions on how to go about taking it all apart?

Help to Modify Profire 2626

Posted 18th October 2010 at 05:13 AM by hawg4life

I wont modify my Profire 2626 interface but don't know where to find my ad converter plus in and out put op amps which capacitors do I change for a better sound and what types can I put in it, could I use film capacitors please can someone help. The caps say Suncap 100uf 25v and some 35 volts whats the best I can use I would love to use film caps if possible or the best electro brands. The power supply is on the board by its' self in the top right corner and the master volume is in the bottom right under the green panel. Can anyone tell me what to look for or how tho modify this board for smoothest sound. Thanks!!!

Squeezebox SB3 update 2

Posted 15th October 2010 at 08:56 AM by audi0

I got the last capacitor for the analogue stage upgrade in the mail today, I had a couple of hours of spare time so made a start. DE-soldering of surface mount components has got to be the worst job! It's slow painstaking work avoiding damage to pads and tracks, and this took the longest part of the job. A slight modification to the IC adapter was necessary to avoid hitting a capacitor otherwise reassembly was simple.
Plugged it in and away it went (sometimes I surprise myself!)
Nice sound immediately and I'm sure its only going to get better once the Elna's burn in!
I was surprised how sturdy the adapter is, there was no issue plugging in the IC, so chip rolling would be extremely easy.
A worthwhile modification? Yes I think so!

Squeezebox SB3 update 1

Posted 13th October 2010 at 08:43 AM by audi0

Squeezebox SB3 update 1

A little progress made, I have sourced and purchased some components;
a Brown Dog DIP8 to SO8 Adapter plus a LM4562 and some Silmic II caps, one more of them still to arrive, then I'll swap the parts.

I have done a board layout based on ideas gained from this diyaudio thread https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/power-supplies/85662-squeezebox-power-supply-3.html and preliminary ideas for an enclosure have been drawn. So it's slowly coming together

Squeezebox SB3

Posted 10th October 2010 at 12:00 AM by audi0

After much deliberation I've decided to 'jump in' and modify my Squeezebox SB3.
I have read many threads on this and other sites gaining lots of ideas of what I want to try to achieve, basically as follows:

improved power supply, dump the wall wart and build a linear supply 5V @~ 3amps
improve the analogue section, initially trying different op amps and upgrading capacitors
remove the inductors from the digital out, add 75 coax and BNC connector (maybe add a transformer?)
upgrade to the 3.3V supply to the clock
build a new enclosure similar to a Peter Daniel amp, chunky aluminium back and front with timber sides (copying is the greatest form of flattery!)

I have made a start, opened it up and discarded the old plastic box. De-soldered the connection board and set aside, then soldered temporary wires for power L & R out and ground back to the connection board (temporary connection)

To get the board into...

Burning Amp 1

Posted 9th October 2010 at 06:52 AM by alexcp (My DIY projects)
Updated 16th March 2013 at 02:40 PM by alexcp

To get warm and comfortable on long winter evenings, I built myself a Burning Amplifier 1. With its 300W quiescent dissipation and ineffable ((c) Nelson Pass) sound, it is a nice winter time companion.

I used four heatsinks, each holdings two IRF250 MOSFETs in TO-3 packages and a PCB. Each pair of heatsinks is cooled by a quiet 140mm fan. Power supply uses a 400W toroidal transformer and 2x40,000 uF per channel; it is a dual mono configuration. The amplifier is housed in a 5U 400mm deep enclosure from modushop. Their "pierced base" was very handy to keep all the parts together without sacrificing the looks. Total weight is 23 kg (about 50 pounds).

The knob on the front panel was designed as volume control, but it looks ugly, so I will remove it.
