I returned to DIY electronics in 2009 after a 20 year pause by building a few kits to get in shape. This blog is for me to keep track of my progress.

Elekit TU-879S is the best sounding kit I have ever built. Thank you TubeDepot.com for selling these kits. With my DIY full range speakers I mentioned a couple of posts earlier, the sound is fantastic.

Update: one of the original 6L6 tubes got blue sparks inside. As this amp can use KT88, KT66, or EL34 without any adjustment or modification, I replaced both 6L6s with EL34s left from the K4040 project, but the sound deteriorated. A replacement 6L6 from TubeDepot.com restored everything.

Alexcp...Appreciate your comments. Do you still feel the same about the Elekit TU879S? Ive looked at tube amp kits from $200 to $2000 and although have built ss kits in the past am a novice when it comes to tubes. Just looking for a place to get started for a reasonable price and still end up with a decent amp.

I would appreciate any and all comments, and recommendations should anyone choose to share.

Yes, I still like the TU879S very much.

Note that a lot will depend on the speakers. My amp works great with Fostex FE206En in DIY full range back loaded horns (BK-20 cabinets from Madisound). These speakers perform well when paired with a low power single ended amp. I do not know if the same magic will work with multi-way speaker or a less sensitive pair.
