I suspect that Jack means the mechanical connection which attaches the headshell to the arm.
Yeah, connecting the "standard" headshell and the often-S-shaped tonearm like the SL-1200 has. It's a lightweight (as in low mass) connector I haven't seen anywhere else.

I'm wondering if use of those connectors is a good idea or not. It's convenient to be able to swap out cartridges, but I'd think a one-piece headshell and arm can achieve better performance.

But if you're not going into manufacturing and don't need a quantity of the connectors, I'm thinking an "old BSR" tonearm would be as good a source as anything. The headshells themselves are standard and should be available at the same places that sell cartridges.
