Wondom/Sure BRU5

Well I just ordered it - the 3244 version.
Got the BRU5 TPA3244 version only $27 on AliExpress. It took a few weeks from China even with the slow mail here in Brazil.
First listen using Bluetooth only so far showed is sounds smoother (less bright?) than my other even lower cost Wuzhi Audio ZK-1002L dual-TPA3116 AIO amp. Surprisingly it doesn't go as loud as the Wuzhi but I'm not sure yet why. Maybe differences in the amps' input sensitivity?
While the Wuzhi goes louder than I'd normally listen this isn't true for this BRU5. Atm, I'm using a scavenged 19 volt, 3 amp power supply.
For speakers I'm using a pair of Hawthorne Silver Iris in open baffles. This is a 96db sensitive 15" driver with concentric tweeter driver.
I might buy the TPA3255 version to compare. They're certainly inexpensive enough to experiment with.

I noticed that the output of the the BRU5 was not as loud as I would have expected at full volume (and no I didn't try to blow my speakers up - I have a pre-amp down line} I suspect it would be the input sensitivity. Odd as it is often the case that someone recommends a resistor tweak to lower the range (some 3116 boards)

I installed the amp this morning with a little frustration. I wired it according to the case markings on the rear, Rt IN and OUT on left of the rear when viewed from the front and L on the Rt.....a bit weird. There was something not right as the sound was skewed to the L and it sounded really weird. Swapped the connections L for R as you would expect when viewed from the front. Same problem. I left the INs as were and swapped the L & R OUTs and bingo!

When this is a few months old I will sort the DC socket and see if there is scope to change the IN and Out orientation. Not really SURE (did you see what I did there) why these amps would be intentionally wired like this and it may have been a production mess up.

SQ. First impressions very good fed with 24v at the moment. Seems nicely detailed with taut and tuneful bass. I tried to connect the amp to my laptop but it did nothing and didn't recognise that it was connected by USB. I was using an OTG lead as that is the only one I have with a USB C connector and will get an ordinary one and see if this works.

Did you figure out how to get your BRU5 connected via USB? What kinda cable do I need to use? I have the TPA3244 version of BRU5.

No, You have to download ACP Workbench v.2.24.2 which I have not done yet. Have a look online. I found this but have not tried it yet - https://archive.org/details/bdm-bru-pcui-acpworkbench-v-2.24.2-2

I think the connection on the back of the amp is a USB - C (from memory)

I recently ordered the 3244 version, mainly for streaming background music via Bluetooth. I don't need more than a few wpc at most so it should do a job. I see folk saying it doesn't go as loud as their other amps. Seems the gain is set fairly low but I read elsewhere this can be adjusted using the DSP...once you've installed the software and somehow made it work :drink:

You can.

My BRU5 arrived the other day and I've just got round to trying the software.

It'll run off a USB stick (so doesn't require installation) and connected easily to the amp (making sure that it's turned on). I spent a happy half hour playing with the gain - but mainly creating low and high pass filters in the effects section.

I've heard that the software runs on a Mac using WINE - in which case it should work on WINE in Linux - which would be my favoured means of using it. I think that Linux WINE will allow two copies of the software to run simultaneously (assigning a different USB port to each instance) thus allowing one to run two BRU5s and control them both in real time. I'll try this later - if it works then the high and low pass filters could be used as a digital XO allowing active bi-amping.

@DartmoorDad Bi-amping a pair of these sounds like a dam good plan to me, hope you post your results. I got mine yesterday, took just over a week which is very fast if it came from China. It's playing some Ludovico Einaudi tracks via Bluetooth just now and it sounds very pleasant through my old Rega floorstanders. I recon it might just be a genuine bargain...

I'm very sceptical when it comes to swapping op amps by trial and error. You can certainly change the sound if you installed one that didn't properly meet spec lol. I doubt any significant audible gain will be achieved but it's a cheap wee amp so no great loss etc 😉 maybe someone else will suggest a worthwhile mod but I'm very happy with mine as it is, its an absolute bargain (I,ve paid more in the past for a volume pot)
