Current list of paid orders in the order they were paid, left column is the # of 10uH inductors required added up line by line.

0 bk856 - 2 bare PCB, 2 bagged uC's
8 impuls60 - 2 x 4ohm

72 erik777 - bare PCB + bagged uC
72 finneybear - 8 ohm, unassembled

A dual footprint for Sagami 7G14A and ICE 1D14A works, with the 7G14 mounted slightly askew within the 1D14A footprint. Electrical characteristics on the 7G14A are pretty decent, I wouldn't consider it a step down. Modifying the PCB now for it.

I'm totally confused. I thought only the 4ohm boards needed the 10uH coils. If that is the case, then the above count is very much out-of-whack.

EDIT: Oh, I now see the 6ohm boards need 10uH as well...

Anyway, you can change my order to 15uH coils and 1.5uF caps. Please. :)

In a pinch, just give me the 15uH coils and no caps at all. I've got some 2.2uF and I'd rather not wait till May.

(The 15uH coils are readily available, right?)

So I can get Kemet 2.2uF/50V caps that fit the existing PCB. This allows an alternative 4 ohm configuration with 15uH, with the following roll-off:

Q 0.76594
Fc 27705
Hz 10000 16000 18000 20000 22000 400000
dB 0.094476 -0.054779 -0.226176 -0.482845 -0.832495 -46.373813

.. in comparison to 10uH + 1.5uF, which is a bit better:
0.77460
41094
10000 16000 18000 20000 22000 400000
0.071075 0.121330 0.119509 0.100384 0.058547 -39.516599

6 ohms actually works really well with 1uF+15uH:
0.77460
41094
10000 16000 18000 20000 22000 400000
0.071075 0.121330 0.119509 0.100384 0.058547 -39.516599

With the original 10uH+0.68uF "TI" configuration for comparison:
0.78230
61033
10000 16000 18000 20000 22000 400000
0.039724 0.089649 0.106704 0.122320 0.135303 -32.624980

So yeah, anyone want this different inductor configuration?

Got a quote back from inductor.com for the 7G14A-100M... $10.00 at qty 10, $7.21 at qty 50, $5.86 at qty 100, all in US dollars... four times the price of the 1D14A, and too damn expensive.

Back to square one...

Wow inductor.com really expensive, the rsonline asias sells them at $2.50 for 1. Maybe Jotrin?? Or wait till probably Sagami delivers inductors to Icecomponents so they can ship to Mouser:) The round wire used to be a version Sagami offered too, flatwire is newer. Package size was identical then, now can be smaller.

(??maybe Icecomponents is part owner of Sagami China factory and distribution geographically is split, then selling Sagami in N.America might mean paying fee to Icecomponents??)

I e-mailed Allied Electronics, who are the "local" RS, they don't even have Sagami on their linecard. Apparently RS is a clusterf** of various component suppliers who still largely operate independently from each other despite common ownership.

Got a quote in with Jotrin (never knew they existed) for 7G14D's, which are pretty much spec equivalent to 1D14A's.

Oh, and PCBs have hit the fab. If all goes well they'll be mailed out end of next week, and I'll see them on the 9th/10th.

looking at RSonline not for first time but didn't check recent LOL maybe few years ago, now I noticed Wurths make polymer and electrolytics and PPfilm caps too, not just inductors/beads, so I like having looked at RSonline yesterday:)

Good news! Jotrin has the 7G14D-100M for $2.10 US/pop. Spendier than the ICE part (I'll be losing money on filter kits) but electrically it's just as good. The PCB has to be modified to take it, but I've got a new layout done now which takes 1D14A, 7G14A and 7G14D.

Only catch is Jotrin is shenzen, so parts might take a while to get here... and fingers crossed they're authentic, I don't know much about Jotrin's reputation.

So Jotrin is offering me a good deal if I buy 100 inductors, I'm gonna take it. After doing some digging they appear to be a legitimate vendor, they've been around for 9 years, have a pretty decent functioning part search on their website, and a number of people have bought stuff from them without any issues. I'll order the modified-footprint "rev1.1" PCB tonight and get fast shipping on it.

This means is the inductor crisis is over :) I'll bang out the cards in order of payment received, using up the rev1 PCBs/1D14A inductors first. I'll absorb the cost difference for currently paid orders, but 4 ohm/6 ohm amps are now $95 (same as 16 ohm amps) and filter kits for 8 ohm amps are now $15.

Considering the long b/o of the originally spec'd "ICE" inductors, looks like until June at least, I would request that we (I) can at least buy any of these hard to get parts, "inductors from Jotrin", as part of our blank pcb order. Or you can solder them on for me, instead of the MCU, which is not a good idea, as they should go on almost last. :)
Not a big deal if it is a too inconvenient. It might reduce costs if the inductor order is bumped to the next price tier. I guess it depends on the time line for shipping our blank pcb's relative to the b/o parts.
Even a simple pcb like this has a lot of time consuming logistics to it :)
