Here's my rebuilt B1. Waiting for stepped pot to arrive. Installed Alps for now.
Other particulars are Mundorf silver/gold/oil and Mundorf MKP caps. Vishay s102k in path. Silver/gold wire. 24v laptop power supply. Building superreg from Jan's boards.

So original. So cool!
if it floats (no electrical connection to anything but central screw ) , there is no short , so leave it as is
though , you'll have better screening if you make deeper one , connected/based to bottom plate if case , while central donut screw mustn't have connection to it
