Pearl Two

The difficulty is that they don't make balanced cartridges, and
without a center-tap ground, the problems with input common
mode noise render it impractical unless you use an input
transformer.

Thank you so much for clearing that up Mr. Pass! I have read over and over again that cartridges are inherently balanced, even from some respected manufacturers. Not that I know very much of anything about audio engineering, but what you say makes a whole lot of sense. I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my query.

Thank you for making so many of your wonderful designs available to the DIY community.

Aaron.

i think the balanced idea comes from the cart's output being AC, but it is floating without a ground reference. Something that a center tap transformer would give.

Mr. Pass, it sounds as if you are reluctant to use an input transformer. If so, why?
That would give common noise cancellation, and a balanced output, or?

Hi,

I don't know your specific cartridge (maybe metallic mounting insets? Or metallic top plate?), but there exist balanced cartridges, or in different words, there exist people modifiying their (metallic) cartridges to balanced by cutting this connection.

Cartridges are not by themselves aware what ground is. It's done on purpose.

Have fun, Hannes

Still Down.... :(

But I'm in for a set of Pearl 2 boards.

2 for stereo yes?
