No, I didn't, and, more importantly, I should also try different plate current and maybe better output caps than MKPs; but it is satisfactory as is.
It was an old picture, the tubes were Russian ECC88/6DJ8 I had as spares for an ancien Solartron scope; they had to be selected for noise, only about a quarter of my stash were OK-ish.
I swapped in the HP/Amperex a few years ago from a small handful I bought used for cheap on eBay, and they're all good. They have the Philips kind of sound (normal, Amperx was yet another Philips brand), the mids are more forward, the highs are a bit less refined than the Russian, but overall quite enjoyable.
