Hi all, total newb here when it comes to Ian Canada products. I am currently using an RPi4, bone stock with stock PSU wall wart, to feed a very nice DAC (Denafrips Venus II) with USB. I would like to use the i2S input on my DAC but my current solution to do that - a Pi2AES - is very limited for DSD output via i2S. Since I use HQPlayer with a custom PC to output DSD256 for everything, Pi2AES can't help me there.

Just yesterday I ordered a FIFOQ3 module and HDMIPi module. My plan is to use those on top of my Pi4 but now having researched a bunch, I'm either confused, intimidated, overthinking it or all the above.

If anyone can help, I appreciate any guidance, on what I need further to make this work. Once I get it working, I intend to do any advisable upgrades (LifePO, supercap, better clocks, whatever makes sense).

I'm guessing to add to my current setup of Pi4, FIFOQ3, HDMIPi - I also need two LinearPis? One for the Pi (5V) and one for the FIFO board (3.3V)?
And if so, how are people getting power to the LinearPi boards themselves? I have a couple decent Meanwell SMPS options (5V/3A, 12V/3A) onhand, or should I use something different? And if I'm visualizing things correctly up to that point, are we just lopping off the 5mm connector and connecting the wires directly to the appropriate connector?

My apologies for posting the above in the Group Buy thread - thought I was elsewhere.

But just to come full circle; I ordered the LifePO4 kit because it satisfies all the different things I was looking to do. Excited to get it all in and together and try to get it all working without blowing everything up (ok I'm honestly not that bad at this stuff).

Ordered the batteries from CA, but it was kinda tough to find ones in stock. Anyway, thanks for the space and the patience, and happy listening :)

Hi toddrhodes,

Very nice DAC you have there, just got my Denafrips PONTUS recently and it worked really well with Ian's Board on I2S Output.

Should you consider to play Native DSD up to DSD512 you need to add: Bridge Pi + USB Amanero 384Combo plus Station Pi will be good.
But with these additional board, the audio signal is feed via USB Board and practically you have a Streamer (RPi) and a DDC (the rest of the Board) which you can still use to connect other USB Source (i.e notebook, PC, etc)

I don't wish to clutter this thread, so if there is a more appropriate place, let me know.

I received my IC goods today:

HDMI Pi transmitter
Battery power supply (but no batteries yet, so it's not in use)
FIFOPi (latest)

For now, I just stuck HDMIPi on top of my Pi4 and was hoping I could just flash RoPieeeXL to it and at least get sound out of it. My DAC is already set up for the Gustard pinout, but neither my HQP NAA image nor any DAC "hat" I've tried - including the "Raspberry Pi DAC (i2S)" option in RoPieeeXL seems to work or even be recognized as an audio endpoint by Roon.

So SMPD seems like what I need to do next, but I see that I must become a member first so I've requested that in the thread you linked.

In the meantime, I will go back to my HQP NAA and toy around with the IC stuff as I can.

Edit - so apparently the issue I was having was something weird going on with Roon. I restarted everything in the chain and now I have i2S playback out of my DAC, from the IC board, using either Roon or HQPlayer.

So we're cooking with fire now. Now it's time to mess with the FIFO board.

Do you mean that RPi 4 with Symphonic -mpd, you can play Native DSD512 from RPi4 via GPIO Pin to FIFOPi + HDMIPi and then to your DAC? so you wold not need USB Board/Bridge Pi?
How could I try symphonic-mpd image,

Well I'm happy to say that I have it all working, but I think I need to solve the software side next because I'm only getting at most DSD64 output via i2S despite upgraded clocks in FIFOPi3 suitable for much higher rates.

I do have hope that Symphonic MPD could possibly serve as a solution here; just a question of whether I'll need other parts and/or will it work ok with Roon and HQPlayer.

Other than that - LifePO4 battery PSU, FIFO Q3, and HDMIPi seem to all work just fine together to their expected, "standard" settings as far as I understand them.
