Destroyer x Amplifier...Dx amp...my amplifier

Right now I have the FR127E and am building the boxes. I have 4 days Thursday-Sunday to myself this weekend, so I hope to finish them this weekend. Dave from Planet10 gave me the design. I am using a K502 amp to power these but will test the HRII on them.
Until now I have been planning to build the Demetri Monolith ML-Voigt for the FE207e or Fostex FE167e. But, the Audio Nirvana drivers caught my eye as well. I really like the reviews I have read about them but they are all from the website that is trying to sell them :) So I need to ask some people around here what they think about Audio Nirvana before I make up my mind.

No I didnt know about a resistor in series. Please tell me or give me a few post numbers I can refer to. And under what q-factor conditions is this under?

I just looked at FE167 and FE166 and while they are supposed to be the same driver except 167 is shielded they really are quite a bit different. Would the resistors in series apply to the FE206 and FE207 as well? They would be incredibly loud with this amp ! :)

Hi UDailey

Sorry, I don't know how to read the q numbers and tell a low q-factor, but I know the FE166 required series resistors. I use a 5ohm 5watt and the difference is not subtle.

Here is the thread I got my info.

I am sure you can post in the full-range forum and they will tell you what you need

A friend have posted into youtube a video with Dx Turbo 70 volts

It is the Dx Standard modified to 70 volts..... he is testing... audio not good, well, youtube audio is not good.

Also video result too much dark...he is learning how to make movies with the camera...i gave him instructions how to avoid saturation, but he installed camera very near the tweeter into the end of recordings and we have saturation.

Those audios have very limited bandwidth...the maximum frequency is lower than 3 Kilohertz, also deep bass lost a lot of deepeness...but it is interesting as something to remember.

Nordic:

The Protection Module looks like fun little build. I look forward to adding mine as soon as it arrives...because my speakers need all the protection they can get with me tweeking amp!

It looks like a well thought out set. The board looks solidly designed and manufactured, and the components look perfectly suited for the task at hand. You should be proud of yet another baby!

Orkut friend is testing Dx Turbo 70 volts

A powerholic Orkut Communitty friend has build a 70 plus 70 volts Dx Amplifier.

I will translate what he told:

- “Man!... the speaker enclosure could not face the power and start to melt, wooden
panels (plywood) vibrating in a such way i could not open full volume because the
whole thing start to move by itself... i have tested using 4 ohms and those Toshibas
have survived (3 pairs only)... man!... the punch was so strong that all neigthboors
close their windows... they may be very bothered because of me... i have made only
a single channel and i was just testing to see how it will sound...now i will make a
break and i will go to the nearest bar to have a celebration with a lot of beer and
some barbecue too”

The way you see folks... Dx Amplifier continue to make people happy!

Thinking about buying regulated variable power supply to test this and other amps. What do you guys think about these two. Best deals I have found and most likely to work out of any ebay deals.

Uriah

ps one of them goes up to 50V and 1.5amps and the other is only to 40V and .35 amps but maybe this is fine for testing amps?

I also like this one, but maybe its a bit expensive and only difference is that it is dual output and digital.

i like cheap parts!:D :D :D

not have enclosure for now, but i will build from wood too. if i come back to my village.

this is the picture.
borrow symasym power supply for testing purpose.

Okay, found one that was nearly over in the auction. Jumped in last 4 seconds and got it at a fair price.
Here it is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250238099094&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=015

It offers dual output at 0-60V and max 700ma. I think this will be fine for testing and the unit seems to be in good shape. It is missing one banana jack, but thats easily replaced.
I dont think I will get my mouser shipment in so I will be doing a small amount of soldering and a lot of speaker building this weekend.

CRT - Nice wiring job! :)
