100W Ultimate Fidelity Amplifier

Mr. Mile,
A version of TB-3 with supply. Could you please check the schematic ? Is layout ok?, although quickly done and not refined...
blue is top ground plane. not diy friendly, but cheap to manufacture.
regards
Prasi

here is refined ver, still using jumpers so as to have contiguous ground plane without slots. second attachment.

regards
Prasi

here is a version that can use either dual secondary or center tapped. Hopefully, I got it correct, If not some one please correct me.
For dual secondary , connections are straight forward, as per the earlier schema.
For CT, one could populate single rectifier at circled pins, AC wires also at circled pins of termi blocks and CT wire at the circled via on ground.
Also changed grounding a bit to isolate high ripple areas and incorporated 'safety' diodes. Basically the psu is almost same as that of ESP P05-rev0

Unrelated, I havent seen Mr. Mile posting here on DIYA for some time, enjoying holidays?, away from us always asking for help?
Regards
Prasi

P.S.

Nice design. LM317/337 are known to be better than 78XX/79XX for PSU.
Regards,
Sumesh

So are many others, including LM317/337+ shunt regulator (by Nazer) for which I did a GB some time ago. + few more.

However, for this kind of circuit, LM78XX is more than adequate and I want to limit real estate taken up. You are free to experiment with your own versions / variations of PSU;).

Thank you for directing me to some new PSU designs.
Let me try.

Made fh9 and love the sound. I can't find fh11/12 pcb for toner transfer. Can you help me out? Thank you people!

Nice work Cook! The FH9 is one of my favorites. Simple and easy to make but powerful dynamics and super sound quality.

You will have to dig around the post below as AndrewLebon made a successful FH11 here.

Another option is to check Directory of Apex Amp thread.

Both great sounding amps. FH9 is very powerful compared to a 20w Class A as it is Class AB. However, the sound of the Alpha 20 is very neutral and natural with very low noise and low distortion. The distortion profile of the FH9 is predominantly third harmonic as it has an LTP input stage. Alpha has an an LTP but modified with a Lender circuit for dominant second harmonic profile. Both are simple to operate and easy to set up. Parts cost is about the same. For moderate to higher sensitivity speakers, i prefer the Alpha. For lower sensitivity speakers, I think you might like the FH9 better, or the 52w Alpha BB (which sounds more like a 100w amp). But you really need to be an experienced builder to take on the Alpha BB (Alpha 20 is in the 4U case behind the BB):

Although, it is easy to setup as there are no adjustments. Both bias and DC offset are self regulating.

Bot transistor pairs are still available, both of them high voltage transistors a good replacement will be more difficult to get or more expensive.

Thank you gaborbela for the quick reply.
Yes, both are still available. But I am finding difficulties in finding genuine ones from local shops.
Also, I am concerned about the hFE difference between 2N5401 and 2N5551(attached the spec) from Fairchild. Does it matters for A40? I might be wrong. Please advise.

Thank you.

Nice little PCBs from PCBway ! also look at what a nice little free gift PCBWAY included in exchange for some accumulated coupons. It gives a very good visual perception of different devices and trace widths, which is not so apparent during PCB designing. Being loyal to boardhouses has its advantages:D.

Hope to build this during rainy season. Has anyone used MJE150XX devices for drivers?

Prasi
