Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

isnt the i2s is PCM so hence the xmos receiver isnt converting the dsd to pcm?

Soekris Engineering, Inc. | products dac1101 has DSD capability so does it has the DSD decoding straight or its converting it into pcm via XMOS through USB?

Or if its straight then soren has the DSD supporting firmware.

The XMOS has nothing to do with the DSD signal, the signal sending thru the XMOS USB to I2S is just "pretending PCM" (DoP), however, when it is DoP signal, the XMOS will flag an extra signal telling the DAC that it is DSD signal.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

so i2s is a PCM signal so when its converted to pcm then it should be fine i believe? we are still converting the DSD to pcm and then using it.

DoP DSD over PCM signal is again different I think that soren should implement as promised long time ago in the firmware.

If the dam1101 has DoP firmware then soren can release it.

rev3:

I now use a custom resistor value on all new boards, so all the 3M01 "fine adjust" resistors will be removed. That leaves space for an additional 300 uF ceramics on each vref.... Otherwise there are no changes and the rev3 is firmware compatible with the other revsions.

DSD:

As stated earlier, I will add DSD support, the firmware is upgradeable: Of course the FPGA will first convert it to 384 Khz PCM, then upsample, pass filters and do digital volume control.

But DSD should be avoided, the point of the R-2R DAC is to avoid delta sigma converting, which DSD is per definition, is really only if you have material in DSD format only....

1.Thats the good part regarding the new resistor upgrade it will even reduce the shot noise as you use less resistors.

2. Regarding the DSD does it supports it natively? or the DSD has to be converted to pcm.

3. Can we upgrade the firmware in the ver1 and ver2 boards to get the DSD support?
when is the date you will be releasing the firmware?
