The design phase of the case has come to an end. I've finally landed on a design I like and am going to stick with it! This has been going back and forth in my head long enough. My wife was kind enough to point out that no matter what I do I'm not going to be happy with the end results therefore I am saving some designs for future builds.

Still waiting on some parts as I have to order a little at a time as my budget allows. Also having to set aside money for when the wife goes on maternal leave is kind of dragging things out. It's getting there one piece at a time along with my knowledge. Sorry for the long and drawn out build guys!:D

Thank you, fabricated. It looks very similar to the one I've got. AndrewT gave me instructions on how to reduce the intensity of the LED's, I was thinking that perhaps it would be better to connect additional LED's in parallel to the ones in the board, I've seen some nice ones at Radio Shack, they are panel mount type LED's and come with wires about 12 inches long. I don't know if this "parallel connection" is possible, or if it would be neccessary to desolder the LED's in the board and solder the panel mount type from Radio Shack instead, I thought I would save that question for later but since we are talking about the board, well, what do you think? Is this possible, or the original LED's have to be replaced?.

Well... I'm not the one to give advise but I was going to try and desolder the leds from the board and just extend the legs with some wire to the front panel.

That or use some thin fiber optic wire from the leds to the front panel that way i would only see a small dot instead of a big bright led..... kinda hard to explain but, I found someone else has done it with really good results cutting up one of those fiber optic christmas tree decorations and using the wire from it. I'll have to do some digging and find that post somewhere

there is actually a video of the selector in action on youtube if you want to see the brightness of the leds in action. This one is the remote version but I belive it's the same selector board.

I've been thinking about adding a module like that to my build, but haven't popped for one yet. I have a nice old Heathkit pre-amp I'll be using in the mean time for testing purposes. Once I get everything in the chassis, I'll know better how much more stuff I want to pack in there - or not. I swear I wish China was right across the street instead of halfway around the world! :) This waiting for parts almost makes you loose track of your original project. Of course if it was, I'd probably be out of a job too. :(

That is exactly right, redjr...

fabricated, I contemplated that possibility too, the one with the fiber optic wires, but then I saw those panel mounted LCD's in different voltages at Radio Shack for just a dollar and change each, I think it's a much better option... If you have a Radio Shack store near you, go check them out, they have them in a drawer by the electronic components section.

redjr-- I can relate to the project getting distorted from the original plan...as you can see.I to wish the us could compete with the prices of the china products.

Aguilabrava-- trust me, the guys at my local radio shack know me by name and know to put the receipt in the bag! lol I only contemplate the thought of the optic wire because I have some at hand. I'll let you know how it turns out.

The mail man showed up today with 6 different small parcels for me! I met him at the road, and he surmised I was doing some DIYs. He said, "Now you can finish some of your projects! I see one was from China." All kinds of goodies. Now I can start on at least one of projects.

Yeah, I'm getting started on a DAC and I'll probably start a new thread in that forum. I'll post a link when I do. I'm try to show my son what it's all about and having him watch over my shoulder and do some soldering where it's appropriate and easy, so it's taking more time. :)

What came was mostly hardware parts, terminal blocks, insulated RCA jacks, LEDs, stand-offs, etc. That kinda stuff. I needed a good stock of those sorts of parts. I'm still waiting on the big prize - my amp enclosure - so haven't been able to do anything on the amp yet. That reminds me I need to send Par-Metal an email.... Stay tuned...

Hey guys - I posted a new thread on my latest DAC build. You can find it here. Haven't started on my amp yet. Still no case. This has not been a pleasant experience with Par-Metal so far. Seems they have a very inadequate ordering and status system. I've had 3-4 calls with them and they keep telling me any day now. Oh well. :(

It's coming along.... just got a new batch of caps in the other day and got them soldered on. I'm still following Aguilabrava's thread to see what his final conclusion of the completed amp is. I'm having to scrap alot of the original design in favor of a more "traditional" setup.

My boy was just born this last Friday so I've kinda slowed to almost a stop here lately. I'll pick back up in a couple of days. I've checked out your DAC and I gotta admit it looks really temting:D;)
